I have a new build and all the parts are being shipping in. I was wanting to know in what order do I install the Operating system and all the drivers?

Thank you in advance.

Check the BIOS settings, then load the OS, then load any specials drivers for the motherboard, then any drivers for video cards/ audio. Then just load things as you need them from then on (ie. programs and whatever).

OS first. Motherboard drivers second (note if m/b manufacturer recommends special order of installation for hardware drivers). Latest Windows Service Pack third. Windows updates fourth. Apps last of all.

I've seen some recommendations on Windows 7 to update to the latest SP before installing hardware drivers. I'm assuming this is because Win7 has such a huge driver store.

Thanks guys.

Beeiilll, what would I look for in the bios? And do I need to set my ram to there specs or will it auto detect? If I have to set my ram can I do it after the computer is up and running?

Wevsspot..... Go Sooners. LOL

Your ram will auto detect, also you can change those settings in the BIOS not in the OS. When he said go to the BIOS I think he was talking about OC settings and powersave settings.

May depend on the timings, voltage and speed of the RAM. The BIOS will certainly detect it, but no guarantee that it will detect it correctly. Some examples would be DDR3 1600Mhz RAM detected as DDR3 1333 RAM, or DDR3 2000 RAM detected at DDR3 1600 RAM. Best to double check the actual settings that the BIOS applied to your memory settings and confirm that it is to the factory specs.

Especially considering high speed RAM or RAM that is designed outside of the JDEC standards. May require bumping FSB, changing memory multiplier etc. to make sure it is running at the correct frequency, timings and voltage. If you have XMP capable gear you can also choose the XMP profile in the BIOS and it will usually apply the correct settings.
