HarryTaco Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Found this Info on my other Fav Site and thought it worth of news. This is all QUOTE. Intel Retailers Raise CPU Prices After Bulldozer Launch By Hilbert Hagedoorn, October 23, 2011 - 1:03 AM N/A """The performance bracket that AMD's FX-Series desktop processors are delivering, apparently made Intel reconsider the prices of its Core i5 and Core i7 processors, which now seem to retail for higher prices than before Bulldozer was out. Intel has seen AMD's inability to deliver a hefty competing product as an opportunity to increase the margins of its products. Using the Geizhals.at price comparison engines, one of the largest of its kind in the world, Bright Side of News analyzed the prices of Intel's processors both before and after the launch of AMD's FX-Series CPUs. This way, the Website has found out that pricing for the Core i7-2600K rose from €237.62 to €258.29 in the timeframe taken into consideration, which is almost a 9% increase in price. According to the same publication, the change cannot be explained due to fluctuations in the USD vs. EUR exchange rate as this would have caused the chips to be cheaper by a few percent. Furthermore, similar price changes were also spotted in other processors that were monitored, including the i5-2500K, and i5-2400, so this appears to be a general trend in the market. AMD launched the first FX-Series processors based on the Bulldozer architecture the last week, on October 12, but despite being eagerly awaited by many PC enthusiasts the performance of the chips has disappointed. In most tests that were run by reviewers, AMD's FX-8150, lagged behind the Intel's Core i5-2500K, while a few tests showed it coming behind even a last-gen Phenom II X6 1100T processor. In order to fix some of these performance issues, AMD could be working on developing a B3 stepping of the Bulldozer architecture.""" Some people have been speculating on this possibillity. Now it seems to be an occurance. One thing it may do is make the AMD BD look more competetive at its current price LOL.
El_Capitan Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Fail move by Intel, but as long as Microcenter's prices don't change, I'm happy.
sYstEmATiC Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Now I'm even more glad that I didn't wait for bulldozer.
Coors Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Without a source i'd just as much assume it's the retailers trying to make their AMD chips they bought sell faster.

Thats what I was thinking too. Its not Intel cashing in but the retailers knowing what they have and pricing accordingly. VaporX Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 This bears watching, if this goes across the board and we see a hike from all retailers then it is an Intel hike. However I am not sure it makes sense for Intel to hike the prices with a new release about to hit that traiditonally lowers prices. IF this is an Intel hike then AMD needs to seriously wake up. Your poduct has to really have issues when your competitor can raise his prices after your nre product launch. Speaking of AMD and their product we offered them a chance for an interivew to air on our first Saturday show and talk about the FX processor. You know give them a chance to directly address various questions and thoughts on the FX processor and give us an inside look at what was going on. The PR rep I spoke with was excited about it but then suddenly said it was being declined. I was offered the chance to send in some questions for them to email me answers to. I have done so and I will let you all know when we get answers.

olokul Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 I got one of my i5 2500K's during the $144.99 weekend sale at MicroCenter. Prices at MicroCenter haven't seen an increase. I just checked to see where a micro center was located by me and it's about 2 hours away. Going to have to pick up a few friends and make a road trip over to it one of these days They have the 2500k for 180 right now. dang me not thinking to look up to see where a micro center was. Live and learn. Next time I guess.
