El_Capitan Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So last night, I updated to iOS5 on my iPod Touch 4. There was an error, and it stopped working. Couldn't restore it or anything, basically making my iPod Touch a lightweight paperweigh. I went on the forums and there were a lot of users with this same issue, however, those that used their Macs to update didn't have any troubles, or fixed the issue. I tried on my Mac Lion VM (hack), and it fixed my issue. FYI, no real news article published on it, yet.
Guest_Jim_* Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 So last night, I updated to iOS5 on my iPod Touch 4. I had a lot of issues getting it to work too, but eventually it did, on my Windows 7 machine. What I ended up doing was redownloading the package outside of iTunes, with AVG and I think my firewall turned off, then I had iTunes update it. It threw an error saying it was unable to make a backup and if I continued it would not be able to restore my applications (not completely true as you just need any backup, not necessarily the one it makes before updating). I let it continue and while before it had been throwing a another error to would stop the whole process, this time it didn't. Finally it updated the thing, and then the backup I had made earlier restored everything with a sync. Not to say there haven't been issues, but it is possible to update the thing in Windows. Still, I think it's funny how little I've been hearing about this issue, without specific searches for it. If Microsoft ever released an update with such poor construction in it, you know it would be all over the tech news industry and a lot of people would be saying, "You should go Mac." Apparently this was also happening when iOS 4 was released too. Also, iPhones were having issue with this update too, causing people's cellphones to be bricked. Munkypoo7 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Zero issues flashing a bunch of iDevices on my Desktop for iOS5. If the phone blacks out on you, just plug it into your PC again, kick it into and re-restore. Problem solved.
El_Capitan Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Ah, good stuff to know, but when I plugged it back into my PC, iTunes couldn't recognize it, even after a reboot. Even on another computer.
