The fact that you were in a different room and came back to hear that from your child means you didn't actually see the ad in question, if there even was one, no? I find it very hard to believe that there was a mormon ad. The closest I can think of was maybe it was an ad for The Book of Mormon? And maybe your kid found it funny. Who knows? But without you being present, it's hard to throw blame on YouTube (not to mention what others have said, that it's your responsibility to police the Internet for your child).

I'm not saying that it's good your 4 year old thinks he's a mormon.

But LOL that's freaking hilarious.

You must not see a bunch of youtube ads, because I know exactly the ad he's talking about. There's actually quite a few. It shows one of a number of people doing something "special" sometimes they're mountain-biking or whatever. At the end of the video they get close to the camera and they're all "I'm (insert name) and I'm a mormon."

Definitely should think about getting AdblockPlus like someone else said. Not only will it block the mormon ads, it will block every ad on youtube, and anywhere else you think you might go on the internet.

Also, trusting youtube or google was your first mistake, sure we all hear some nice things that are said about google but google is a very large corporation and they make a lot of their money through advertising, you can expect to a good variety of ads from google. The truth is that google is a business first and a buddy second, they are not the average person's internet BFF by any means.

you are worrying over nothing

your children are far more influenced by your bad habits than some word they never heard before and most likely never will again for a long time

if your child is old enough to wonder what a mormon is then you need to sit down and explain it instead of letting them find out from others

and from what I recall, those ads don't talk about religion at all, they just talk about mormon people who've had a wonderful life

now its true, youtube ad service is barebones and does not account for any demographics which might be troubling to parents

you have to remember, ANY IDIOT can post a youtube video, so parental supervision is required but you can skip any ad on youtube, just click the button

Freedom of speech is universal, and applicable to everything, sorry but thats just the way it has to work. I can see your point in affecting children, who don't know what to pick and choose as correct, but maybe you should rip the shows so you can be certain what he sees... don't trust google!

+1

While this might be going against forum rules a little bit, I would suggest finding other ways of acquiring the show. One thing to keep in mind is that when shows are officially on youtube, they're supported by ads, so by blocking ads you could call it piracy, and if so if it's got to be that way, might as well... you know. In my opinion it's the better option anyway, I know it's a kids show but that doesn't mean you couldn't run across some adult comments in the comments section. Just putting it out there for consideration.

Blocking ads isn't piracy. I just prefer not to be face raped with annoying ads everywhere I go online. I also change radio stations when they play commercials too. *insert random rant* Or ffs...start telling me what the daily price of corn is...like wtf? Just because I listen to country doesn't mean I give a flying . how much corn is going for. Do they really think that their average listener needs to know that? Theres probably 1 farmer to 500 other listeners and guess what...that farmer probably gets his info straight from the source. He isn't going to sit around the radio intently listening for that time of the hour of when they list the prices of .. Must be a Missouri thing -.-

IMO it's mostly a waste of the company's money anyways. I'd like to think that not all people are so mindless as to see a commercial and then suddenly feel the urge to spend their money on whatever it was they just saw. Like say I want a Dr. Pepper. Then a coke/pepsi commercial comes on. Guess what...I still want a Dr. Pepper. I can see advertising being worth it on the local lvel only. Like maybe a Olive Garden opens up in the area they would want to let people know. Or any other new business. But I feel national level advertising is a waste of their money for the most part.
