I am thinking about using my old parts to build a HTPC

I thought I might want a little dedicated GPU but they all require a 400w PSU!

are they serious?

I want this card here AMD 5450 but even the smaller cards require a 400w PSU except for the 8400GS, I'm not buying that useless piece of junk

do you think I can get away with a 300w OEM PSU?

it is paired to an old athlon64 X2

Any high quality psu should be enough(300w+). This is not a power demanding configuration.

When you are buying a new psu, always look to use only half of the psu power. For example, if your sistem drains ony 100W, you should buy a 200W power supply unit.

Even for a non-main PC I don't think I could ever use a no-name brand from an outlet center.

I have an Antec Earthwatts 500W that I'd sell you for $35 if you want?

It's the same model that I'm using in my machine right now.

Plus you could always add in a more powerful GPU later on.

thanx for the offer, but if I have to replace the PSU I might go for a mini ITX like a shuttle case or something fun

I was looking at full size ATX cases but they kind look like old VCRs, might as well use my HP case for now

it's actually not a no name brand, it is OEM and found in every HP and compaq from a few years ago

of course, that doesnt mean it is good quality but it is without a doubt reliable

I think I might also need a wireless keyboard with a track pad.

this one is cheap, but I dont know about the quality gear head

rosewill is more expensive and I trust them but the reviews look bad

that way, i can use the computer from the couch
