puu5uup Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Qestion: Can I just take out one harddrive and put in a new harddrive and let it rebuild itself? It is 5 harddrives in my Lian Li EX-50b HW RAID5. from different batches are 2x HD204UI and 1x WD20EARS. The remaining 2 harddrives are from same batch HD203WI so I replace one of them with a WD or Samsung harddrive. I have 2x HD203WI from same batch so I'm replacing it with either a WD20EARS or HD204UI.
Waco Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 (edited) AFAIK it should rebuild on its own...but it really depends on the controller in the actual enclosure. I know my two external boxes will rebuild automatically when a fresh disk is mounted but mine are quite different from yours (Sans Digital TRM4-B). Boinker Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 If its anything like my P6T7 with the SB being the raid controller then I would just Unplug the defective drive. boot the system. Slap the rebuild button after you get into the OS then walk away for a while. It will not automatically do it but it will take time after its executed.
