Gremlin Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 So Amazon had a deal for 3tb drive... I plugged it into windows 7 OS and sees the drive as it should. I am replacing a 1 tb drive that has data with the new drive... My motherboard is foxconn and my system locks up in idle randomly due to their bios.. So I started copying files over and it locked up.. So I used ghost to copy disk to disk, and after that well windows sees only 2.0 tb drive and the rest 800gigs is greyed out. I cannot even extend the drive. Any ideas? Thanks
Nemo Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Is this 32-bit or 64-bit OS Is the drive your boot drive or a secondary drive? The MBR has a hard limit of 2TB so you would need to format it using a GUID partition table to get around the 2TB limit - but you can't boot off a GUID partiion table drive. Deathmineral Posted September 12, 2011 Posted September 12, 2011 Probably what you're experiencing is this. I found out about this issue a while back when I was looking to do a hard drive upgrade, it's because of this that I chose two 1.5TB drives over a single 3TB drive. darkreize Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Unless you have UEFI BIOS then you pretty much hit the 2GB limit.
