nugga Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) hello everyone, i just upgraded my rig yeasterday with new RAM, GPU, Case and a new screen too. The problem is that the GPU crashes for a reason i can't think off. Sometimes just a few minutes after i turned on my computer, sometimes when i'm surfing the web and the gpu is almost idle and sometimes when i have been gameing for more than an hour. What happens if the screen just starts to flicker and show alot of colored squares "i'll upload a pic" BTW i'm running dual monitor, the driver is 280.26(but i tried with an older one too, and my PSU is a 750W energon i know it's crap but the power output should be enough considering my old card radeon 4890 uses more power? I also tried to increase the voltage slightly, it might have helped a little but it still crashes BTW thanks alot for helping Edited September 2, 2011 by nugga
MandoPatriot Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Check all your connections and make sure everything is seated properly. Wires, cards, monitor cables, etc. Did you upgrade your mobo as well? Did you reinstall Windows or just swap everything out?
Speedway Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Looks like a clear RMA to me As long as everything is properly connected and checked, and it looks like this, then you need to call MSI, or the place you bought it.
nugga Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) Thanks alot both of you. I just unplugged my gpu and installed it again a double checked all my cables. For some reason the GPU cannot determine my second screen anymore, so i guess there might be a problem with the vga to dvi converter i'm using. Yes i'm using an almost clean version of windows, though i actually installed it using the old hardware, but i dindn't install any drivers for the hardware i knew i was going to replace. I think i'll go ahead and reinstall a fresh version of windows and then give it a try, if i still can't find my second display or the GPU still crashes, then it's a RMA BTW i'm still open to suggestions and the only things i did replace were the things i listed above. Thanks UPDATE After reinstalling the drivers i did manage to get my second display working again. I'll try to game for a few hours and then i'll report back Edited September 2, 2011 by nugga
MandoPatriot Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 UPDATEAfter reinstalling the drivers i did manage to get my second display working again. I'll try to game for a few hours and then i'll report back Awesome! Hope it works out for you. Usually when something goes wrong, it is either a connection/wire/cable problem or a driver problem. Lol. Personally, anytime I install new hardware (besides something like a video card, RAM, or another HDD), I always reinstall Windows. You can just never be too sure about what is left on or what is causing issues. To me, reinstalling Windows is easier than going in and manually cleaning everything out. I have played Crysis 2 for a few hours and i have not had any crashes yet I'll give it one more day and then hopefully i'll come through without any crashes
MandoPatriot Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Awesome! If you have something like CCleaner, I would clean your registry too. Could be some left over stuff in there.
