Bulldozer & Ivy-bridge

Recommended Posts

How will they perform against the current generation in your opinion ?

Do you think that AMD will beat Intel This time ?!

Are you willing to switch to AMD if they win this time ?! :-/

For me, I think if and only if the upcoming CPUs from AMD can match or outperform Intel's (Ivy Bridge) or at least offer a better performance than the I7 2600k ..then I will go with AMD.. :woo:

Since the release of Phenom II, AMD has finally attracted my eyes.

In the past I was leaning towards intel because you can run either Crossfire or SLI. But Since the 990FX managed to offer the same thing. It all goes down to the Performance of the CPU itself.

After reading my thoughts, I want to hear your thoughts.

IMO BD will be a great great CPU option for budget minded people that want the best bang for the buck. I have both a Intel sandy build as well as a AMD 1100T build so im not by any means a Intel Fanboy or vice versa.

BD should and will be a vast improvement over the 1xxx series hex cores out now for AMD but i dont see them edging out Sandys or 1st gen I7 EE's (9xx-x) Especially with Ivy's on the horizon. IMO intel atleast in the near future have nothing to worry about in terms of sheer performance bragging rights. But even at the current price of 170$ for a top end 6 core cpu (1100t) thats hard to pass up. AMD as a company have a great outlook as far as providing top notch products at an affordable price and thats what makes them that much more appealing. whether your pro Intel or pro AMD i think everyone's anxiously awaiting BD release

I have a buddy with a Intel 990x oc @ 4.6ghz with turbo on mated with qual sli gtx 570's..forget what his benchmarks were but i gurantee no BD will touch his benchies..i manage over 11k cpu score on passmark im sure his was well over 15k..a stock 1100t only gets a 6k something im realistically estimating best Bd will be somewhere between 7-8k score at stock

I'm hoping that BD will match or at least come close to SB. That's all AMD needs to have a HUGE win on their hands. Their server parts already murder Intel rigs in terms of memory and I/O bandwidth...all they need to do is up their IPC and they'll be golden.

Why can't AMD Match Ivy Bridge or Outperform Sandy Bridge ?!

I doubt they can make up that much ground. If they can I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I was thinking the same thing but in Nvidia & ATI ..untill the 4800 series. They brought a green monster to its knees. If they could match intel, I believe that there are many like me who will switch to AMD.

Don't forget that a lot of the long time enthusiasts who are running Intel processors now, used to run AMD rigs in the past. The trend will always favor the parts that give high end performance without the extreme 4-digit flagship prices. My current rig is Intel because when I built it, not much was touching the Wolfdale C2Ds, especially the Xeon binned chips. Before that almost all of my rigs have been AMD - everything from Applebred Durons, XP-Ms, Opterons, and Winchester Athlons.

This is actually only my second or third Intel rig compared to countless AMD machines, and I would go back to AMD in a heartbeat if they gave me a part with similar or greater performance potential, great overclockability, and a reasonable price compared to their Intel counterparts.

They will most likely match the current line of Sandybridge but thats about it.

Pretty sad seeing them play catchup all the time, everytime they do Intel counters with newer and faster hardware but of course higher pricing.

I think it's pretty impressive that they keep up at all given the HUGE disparity in funds/manpower/etc. :cool2:

Whats sad is that AMD never can compete with what Intel brands as their Extreme Editions :(

Ivy Bridge 22nm should beat Bulldozer if Bulldozer is only on par with SB .
