Ricky C Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Hi I haven’t been on the forums for a while, but I am finally looking to upgrade my old Toshiba laptop as the panel and battery are both on their way out. I have been looking at budget laptops (around £400). However I cannot decide upon which one would suit my needs. I need something at will allow me to run 3d applications such as left for dead in medium/slow settings. Also I need it to be a laptop that I can easily purchase in the U.K. Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks
NikolaT Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 For up to 400 you don't really have much based on my searching - the HD 3000 could work with some games but I wouldn't be counting on 30++ FPS. The E350 is good as far as the IGP is concerned but it's processor is pretty weak. For a bit more these provide great bang for your buck: http://www.ebuyer.com/252472-hp-probook-4525s-laptop-xx789ea-abu http://www.ebuyer.com/267792-hp-pavilion-dv6-6077sa-laptop-lq756ea-abu I don't like HP but they're cheap. For 400 and under your best bet would be, in my opinion, a 2nd generation Core i3/i5 with HD 3000 graphics. If I had to choose, I'd take this Acer: http://www.ebuyer.com/268391-acer-aspire-5750-laptop-lx-r9702-
The Smith Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 In that price range, you definitely want a Llano APU. It has the strongest - and by far - integrated graphics, and depending on the model it can have up to four cores. I didn't search much in the UK, but here in Canada they are pretty cheap. The A series is what I wanted to recommend but the UK sites just don't seem to have them for some reason o_O http://www.pcchecker.co.uk/Computers/Laptops/AMD/A6-3400M/ edited in, seems like they're pretty rare. Well the first one, at 450, isn't bad!
Ricky C Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) After looking at the laptop, I may have found an alternative http://www.ebuyer.com/275878-lenovo-thinkpad-edge-e525-laptop-nz62guk. Spec wise is it about the same and would it work for 3d gaming Edited August 15, 2011 by Ricky C
My_Inner_Fred Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Good find but the CPU looks a little weak.

Lenovo is a +1 in my book (Thinkpad's are AWESOME) - though I can't vouch for the Edge specifically.
