Bulletproof Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I am soon gona be assembling a new computer, i am a big gamer and i need to decide a new video card, for 223$ i can get myself a Sapphire Radeon 9600xtBOX, with the hl2 coupon...Just a question, is this a good card? j00f00 Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I have a 'Built by ATI' 9600XT, and it runs quite well. I'm sure Sapphire has added a few goodies to the card, so that price seems fair. I suppose you posted the specs in the other thread? The answer is, yes. The 9600XT is set to play pretty much every game that's out there. I run UT2k3 at slightly higher than moderate settings and I get an average fps of 118 highest, 94 lowest (but I'm sure my P4 helps out). While this is a good card, it's no match for the 9800 Pro, which is cheaper now. It all depends on your budget.
Bulletproof Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Hmmm...THe 9800 Pro is 425$, a bit over my budget as i will also be purchasing the rest of my pieces, i think i will have to buy the 9600xt and when the time comes upgrade, but thx for the info btw
IUMaestro Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 BulletProof - I am a big gamer too, the 9600 XT will be great! ANd you do want to go with Sapphire since they actually produce the cards for ATI And I suggest putting some RAMsinks on the vid card RAM, even if you wont be overclocking. If you are, then maybe use a 3rd party cooler on the chip as well. But back to the point - Yes that card is great. Go for it!! Eva_Unit_0 Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 For 223 bucks you could easily get a 9700pro instead. It's quite a bit faster than the xt will ever be. Only problem is, it doesn't come with hl2.
