Black64 Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 So I was looking online the other day for a Laptop. I saw they had the I7 9xx CPUs in the really high end ones. So I thought they would have a high end AMD CPU like the X6 in one. But I couldn't find any. I googled to find out that AMD only has 2,3 and 4 core CPUs out right now for laptops. Is there any reason why they don't have a six core out? Come to think of it I don't think they released any new CPUs for the moblie market in a while. Does any one know why? The Smith Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Hexa-core mobile processors don't exist. Those you see are desktop processors in a laptop. At 130W TDP, don't expect anything higher than 10min of battery life. That's why there aren't much of them.

pkilway Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Not true Here's one anther one here and here Just because I can stick my head in my oven doesn't mean I should. Yes, they are desktop cpu's shoved into a laptop - been happening for years. And yes, the power needed to run a desktop cpu in a laptop - well let's say, I hope you have a LONG extension cord...... Black64 Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 (edited) Well they are still in a laptop and they all are hexa-core. But my real question is why not AMD? Where is the X6 laptop? Edited July 7, 2011 by Black6464
Drdeath Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 ???? Hexacores are not mainstream. Hope Thar answers your question. AMD is about to make a huge impact in the laptop market with fusion. Llano release will be mainstream as the on die GPU will be as big as 6550D. You tube, graphics any gaming are far superior to Intels integrated platforms. Watch AMD start to get the market with Zambezi C and E processors at the low end and Llano for mainstream.
Drdeath Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 If there is Bulldozer based APU's with fusion on die GPU's, Zambezi( C and E processors), Llano(A processors) and Bulldozer(FX processors) will give AMD a powerful 1-2-3 punch but will be less expensive than Intel. Darth_Tom Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 There are no $3000 laptops with AMD processors in them because at that price point, it's all about performance. If you can dump $3000 for a laptop, you're not going to say "Yeah, I'll get a slightly less fast processor and save $500". Just like most people with a $2000 budget for a desktop don't look to build AMD. There just isn't a market for laptops with AMD hexacores. Though I still think the ones you show don't count. If I tape my monitor to the side of my computer case, that doesn't count.

Sounds like a pretty darn awesome idea though, going to look for some duct tape, later!
