Jump4h Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 I'm gonna sell my XFX 5970 Black Edition and instead buy a GTX 580. Why? -Crossfire performance -Bugs regarding scaling -Random crashes with triple monitor. Now, I bought it about 1 year and 2 months ago. The retailer's warranty was 1 year. I've read about this "Double lifetime warranty" thing. Does it apply only in the US or abroad also? I live in Finland.
IVIYTH0S Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 at this decision I'd contact XFX directly or check their website regarding how they handle the lifetime warranty. I'd say if the retailer mentions lifetime warranty then there's a good chance that XFX will support that or else it'd be illegal to make that claim. I wouldn't do this though, fully flush your drivers or do a fresh install of windows. I haven't had any driver issues with my 5970 whatsoever. 5970>
Nyt Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 at this decision 5970>580 So wrong ... 580 is quieter , oc's better , performs better with no stutering and has PhysX and is latest generation thus having a better resale value . I had a duel where my 5970 nearly died trying to be on par with a GTX580 But I noticed you said triple monitors , the GTX580 can only do 2 . You need two cards for Nvidia Surround
dr_bowtie Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 man if it were closer I'd offer to nab it and crossfire the one I have...that would be a MONSTER...

You need two cards for Nvidia Surround The 5970 overclocks very impressive for a dual core card. Does the 590 overclock well...nope (aka not really fair unless comparing dual to dual, despite 5970s overclocking very well) I've never seen any serious or noticeable stuttering, though I know the 580 assuredly has higher minimum fps. Physx isn't a selling point to me personally as I don't like to support proprietary technologies and it has not really taken dominance in the gaming market. (Thank god) In the OP's case I'd recommend two 560 2GBs or two 6950 2GBs!! The 5970 is still easily equal with the 580 but they both have their strong points, neither of which is multi monitor gaming.

I haven't had any driver issues with my 5970 whatsoever. 5970>580 I have: -Reinstalled windows 3+ times -flashed BIOS on the card -Increased cooling significantly -Reinstalled drivers too many times to count Yet I still get microstuttering, many times only 50% load on the GPU and unstable FPS. I still haven't gamed much in triple monitor due to the numerous bugs in the games and also because you get a headache in half an hour of gaming with three 26" monitors Edited June 29, 2011 by Jump4h
