Pec0 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 (edited) I would like a little upgrade on my graphics card for Battlefield 3 coming out in September/October 2011. I currently have a Radeon Sapphire Vapor-X HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E. I have roughly £150 to spend. To save money would it be worth my buying a second 4870 and running them crossfire as opposed to a newer card or would I get more performance out of a brand new card and if so which one for £150? Owenisbad Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 (edited) This is a little over budget but it's amazing for the price, this is cheaper but still fast. 4870's are great and cheap on ebay but in crossfire I think you might get some heat issues especially with your 300, and they don't perform quite as well as a 5870 in cf. Also you have nearly the same motherboard as me Another option: This is newer, more efficient and runs cooler but it's not quite as fast as the 5870. I'm pretty sure the 5xxx series runs on two GPUs, hence the better performance over the 6xxx series, which only have one GPU on them. I'm really not sure perhaps I should wait for Battlefield 3 to come out, so I might delay the purchase for a couple of months and get one when the prices reduce.
