i have a friend who wants to sell me his 5770 for $80 that he has used on an everyday basis for heavy gaming for 7months. or there is a new 5830 0n newegg for $110 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102878 (SAPPHIRE 100297L Radeon HD 5830) . which should i go with?

 

AMD Phenom ii X6 2.8 GHz

8 GB G-Skill Ram 1600

most definitely the new 5830, its the difference between 1680 x 1050 and 1080p as it were. :)

just make sure it will fit in your case, its a long card (as long as a 5870)

The 5770 is a great card and would do well but for the price he is asking I would go with the new 5830. Get him down another $10 to $15 and my vote would change.

The 5770 is a monster of a card for the money, it performs almost on par with my 5850@1080p rez. You can't go wrong with either, but I would probably go with the card that has a warranty. Are they both reference cards? Or does one or both have a non-reference design that dumps hot air into the case?

I'm assuming you meant the 5830, the 5770 doesn't come anywhere close to 5850 performance.
