Standard P67 Upgrade/Build

I know I'm not supposed to buy parts here and there... I'm supposed to get them all at once and do one big build. Well I'm married, and my wife is more comfortable buying things here and there instead of making one big purchase. Instead of arguing and explaining the advantages, I've been buying the more price-stable items first (case, memory on sale, cooler, etc.) to keep the peace.

This will be a simple build, no modding of cases or anything. I might slap a sticker on it, but that will be the extent of my modding :P

Old system:

Case - Thermaltake Armor+ full tower case with seven 110CFM fans. It's loud.

Motherboard - EVGA 790i Ultra SLI

CPU - Intel E8400 (@3.83GHz)

Power - Rosewill 600W

Cooler - Xigmatek HDT-S1283 with 110CFM fan

Memory - 2x2GB Patriot Viper DDR3 1333 1.7v CL7 (@1430, CL9)

Video - SLI GTX 260's

Hard Drive OS - 74GB WD Raptor 10k RPM SATA2

Hard Drive Storage - 250GB Seagate SATA2

Monitor - 24" Acer 1920x1200

3/3/2011 - Purchased Corsair AX1200 ($257.98) along with the BFG 260 ($99) for SLI to make me feel better about doing a slow build.

4/6/2011 - Purchased 2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 CL8 memory ($84.99) thanks to a sweet shell shocker on newegg.

4/11/2011 - Purchased Silverstone Raven RV02B-EW ($178) from Amazon, received it next day (Prime 2 day turns into 1 day if it's close enough)

4/13/2011 - Transferred internals from Armor+ to Raven 2-E

Between April and June had a ton of medical bills (including one for my new son) and spent $4,000 on a new kitchen

6/15/2011 - Purchased used/like new OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD for $200

7/17/2011 - Won a new Gigabyte P67A-UD5-B3 motherboard on eBay for $170 shipped

8/5/2011 - Bought a new-in-box i7-2600k for $250

Old dusty case (cleaned once in three years):

New case and after cleaning every component with a vacuum and brush attachment:

A bit of an improvement in wire management too I guess lol.

Next purchase is going to be a GTX 580 and a Corsair H80... hopefully with proceeds from selling my current 775 system.

Phase 3 will be two more 120hz LCDs followed by a third GTX 580 (depending on available current offerings from VGA partners)

I'm estimating about a year between phases.

I don't think the power will be worth it, especially not in two years!

There will be newer card then, much better performing!

I was thinking that as well, that's why I said depending on current VGA partner offerings. If I can find a good deal on newer tech, I'll sell the 580(s) and buy new.

I'll also probably upgrade the processor in phase 3

Hey, nothing wrong with piecing things together as your budget permits! And no credit card debt to boot (I'm assuming).

Things are coming along nicely - and congrats on the new baby and the new kitchen. Over your lifetime the baby will end up costing more :)

What all did you and the wife do to the kitchen?

New countertops, cabinets, fake hardwood floor, trim, painted, new over-the-range microwave (LOVE IT), added a shelf over the window, and got a new dishwasher (bosch, super quiet).

It looks much better now... about $4000 better lol.
