SSD Drive Recommendations?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, my 1.5TB drive decided to die out of nowhere (not recognized by computer and keeps making clicking noises), so in the time I'm waiting for my hard drive to get replaced by the warranty, I'm going to need something to use in the meantime. Sure, I could buy a $40 160GB hard drive, but then it would be useless. So I decided I will get an SSD.

First of all, I would like 60GB of storage (or even less, if Windows 7 plus drivers will fit), but no less than 40gb.

Secondly, my budget is $100, stretchable to $130.

Finally, I would prefer if I could buy it in store close to where I live (it is quicker), but obviously if there is no selection I'll order it online. Ideal buying place would be microcenter by New York city.

I want a reliable fast drive. Thanks for any help.

& Sorry for the bad grammar etc. I am on my phone because I can't use my PC.

Hey, thanks for the quick response!

Uh, could you elaborate on what it means for an SSD to be sandforce controlled? And which line of Intel SSD's are you referring to?

But yeah I have heard good things about Intel SSD's.

does your motherboard support SATA3?

edit: well, if you are going for good entry level the 60 GB OCZ agility 2 fits your budget and is great

"sandforce controlled" is referring to the controller chip used by SSD makers. SandForce is the manufacturer of the controller and right now the SF1200 series control chips seem to be working out pretty well.

Alright thanks for the input guys!

As an FYI, no, I don't have SATA 3 at the moment.

Edit: That Corsair looks really good, has the sandforce controller and all. I'll probably go for it, thanks!

Just wanted to say thanks on the recommendations!

The Corsair drive that was recommended is working out really well, and I haven't had any issues yet!
