Out of cash option :)

I'm currently having (PC below text) a kinda old build. I was about to sell it and get new but i got out of cash and now i need to upgrade it piece by piece when I can. So I ask you (experienced overclockers, computer technicians and read a lot guys :)) to help me with this problem, getting best performance by changed component. Thanks in advance! Spec goes liek this!

Motherboard: Asus M4N78 nForce 720a Upgrade probably (Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720BE clocked to 3.41 GHz (244x14) (Probably wanna keep this as I'm in love with it :))

Memory: Geil Black Dragon 4x1GB currently working at 812MHz Upgrade probably (PATRIOT 8GB (4x2GB) 2000MHz DDR3 Viper Xtreme)

GPU: Asus 8800GT 256MB Upgrade probably (Gigabyte Radeon HD 6950 2GB)

PSU:CM 430W Extreme upgrade probably (Thermaltake TR2 RX 550W W0134)

Case: CM Centurion 5 Upgrade probably (I'm not sure yet and thinking of some Thermaltake case suggestions please! Price range 50-70 euros and it has to be black inside and outside)

DVDRW:Asus ATA probably wanna swap it for some random S-ATA DVDRW.

Cooler: CM Sphere it works perfectly but i got bored of the looks, will swap it too for some Thermaltake cooler (ye you guessed it I'm a brand NERD :)) Looking forward to TT Jing but its not available in my country yet :()

Storage: WD160GB SATA I (suggestions please, wanna go for SSD this time, for high speeds and maybe some SATA III Storage drive 1TB for storage)

Feel free to suggest whatever you like regarding this build and upgrading order/performance! Cheers!

First off welcome to OCC

I like your choice of motherboards.

If you like your current cpu Great! Gives you one upgrade option in the future if you keep your current cpu :)

Don't waste your money on DDR3 2000 speed RAM running on the AM3 platform.

Nice choice on the video card.

You're ok on the power supply but cutting it close for any future power hungry upgrades.

Case = personal preference.

Thanks and thanks :) Erm about memory is not that big difference in price ..as I'm planing to overclock my CPU even more..what memory is best to get..Have Patriot in mind as well as Mushkin Kits! Well maybe I was not understandable enough :) I am asking what should I change first to get best performance ratio...so I'm basically looking for an order of getting each component as well as suggestions and advices :) Cheers

If you intend keeping the processor for now will a motherboard and memory upgrade show enough of a performance boost to justify the cost?

Why not upgrade the graphics card and power supply for now and see how it goes until funds permit a modo/cpu/memory upgrade?

I, like wevsspot, think you're a little light on the power supply and it will limit any future upgrades. If money is a little tight then I'd consider something like a GTX460 1GB with a Thermaltake TR2 RX 650W. You'll see a great performance boost over your 8800GT and it'll save a little cash to go towards a mobo/cpu/memory upgrade with the option of another GTX460 in SLI should it be needed?

How much are you looking at spending and were are you located?

if he upgrades to bulldozer he might use it since 1866mhz is the native speed on that platform thing

Well, all that is ok, and I thought that GPU is my weakest link but with GPU comes PSU :) ...which you guys say is a little weak..well i can go for THERMALTAKE Toughpower XT TPX-675M 675W its only next available option here in my country and its like double the price of the TR2 RX550W...so yeah..kinda crappy :)

And yeah...Id rather go with AMD not nVidia cards.Well in total about 600-750 euros but not all at once as I said I'm very limited monthly..but probably can go component or two at the time. And yeah I'm from Serbia :)

my list of upgrades:

now:

1. 60+GB SSD with sandforce controller

2. PSU at least 550W for single gpu (refer to recommended power supply list in the forums)

3. GPU from the 69xx series

summer:

4. bulldozer motherboard (here maybe you have to change Optical drive since no ata conectors any more), but you can still use your cpu

5. better/more ram

6. bulldozer CPU

7. cooler fitting the power of the new cpu.

more storage and case when you feel the need for it.

AMD is releasing a new socket and new generation CPUs in june, and those motherboards will be backwards compatible with your processor, so you can buy one at a time.

DEFINITELY upgrade the motherboard, nvidia chipets

Keep the cpu, it's a great gamer chip (any success on unlocking??) also is that the highest it can overclock??

Memory: When you upgrade get a nice 2x4GB kit of 1333mhz sticks, cheapest you can find. An unlocked chip doesn't need fast memory!

GPU: 6950 sounds good, though what resolution are you playing at?

PSU: I agree with the others a nice 650W maybe smarter. 550W would work though.

Case: I wouldn't change this unless the future graphics card will have fitment issues.

DVD: Again (and even though I hate IDE), I'd keep the Asus drive since you wont have any speed advantages with the SATA. It's just nicer for the smaller cable but if you have a working drive there's no need

Cooler: if you upgrade, get the CM Hyper 212+. It's all the cooler you'll ever need with a price you can't deny!

HDD: I highly recommend the Seagate LP 2TB, it's the best GB/$ for a storage drive (and even surprisingly fast as an OS drive but I'd get a small SSD for that)
