stackrainer Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Recently I got 2 case fans for my pc since it was running a bit hot. One of them is a 80mm which I have put in the back and the other one is a 120mm fan which im going to put in the side of the case. I put the 80mm in the back but since i dont have any places on my motherboard to hook it up, i attached it to my power supply. The fans i got werent exactly quiet and i dont need them to run at full speed all the time, so if there is a way i could rewire them or do something without buying a fan controler i would really like to know. Both fans have 3 wires, white, red, and black. thanks for the help.
Onion Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) You could always solder a resistor the wire. Edited March 21, 2011 by l33t p1mp
DanTheGamer11 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 You could always solder a resistor the wire. or could buy a zalman or antec fan controller?
paulktreg Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 You could try them on 8.7V or 7V? Fan positive (red) to psu +12V (yellow) and fan negative (black) to psu +3V3 (orange) for 8.7V supply or fan positive (red) to psu +12V (yellow) and fan negative (black) to psu +5V (red) for 7V supply. I know it's not ideal but it works!
