PC Games - Tips, Tricks & Tweaks!

Recommended Posts

You should probably add Fallout 1 and 2 and a tip on how to run it on Windows 7 since there are a few problems with the game under the system. I can provide you with the instructions (which aren't mine but I found on another forum). Also CSS, System Shock 2 (that one is tricky to run on modern PCs too).

Thanks for the suggestion SPatrol, I actually reserved that second Placeholder because i was going to add in some support info for Pre-2000 games, current ones i have tagged are:

Starsiege

NFS: III Hot Pursuit

Diablo 2

TRIBES

Ill see to the earlier fallout games, though id have thought them to work fine since they're part of that Fallout pack from Steam. Anyone have any other old games they cant seem to get working right under a new system?

Actually Steam doesn't really do much in the way of keeping games updated to newer Windows operating systems.

I have several older games on Steam that automatically launch DOSBox. Never had an issue with those personally, but I haven't tried all the older games I have on Steam either. But you are right, some games Steam has state that it won't work properly on W7 or even with a DX10 video card.

hmm Waco, im Referring Specifically to "Morphological" Anti-Aliasing, Not the different filtering options (wide tent, edge detect). I don't think the 4870 series of cards has this option available. It was introduced with the 10.10a drivers, and only the 58XX Series and new 68XX Series of cards have it, at least to the best of my knowledge. ;)

I know - I was just mentioning that the older filters do a somewhat similar thing. Both the wide and narrow-tent options for standard MSAA end up smoothing the entire screen including text. From the screenshots of MLAA I've seen it looks pretty similar and the performance hit isn't that bad.
