katokato Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) from my knowledge, all these parts should work together to play most games of the day. but since im spending quite a bit of money i just want to confirm with the pros. I already have a hard drive with 32bit windows xp on it, do you guys think if i just put the hard drive with the build below it should boot without problems (after installing mobo and ati drivers first). I know that i wont be using the full 4 gigs of memory (probably about 3.5) but i intend to get a caviar black in the future and reinstall x86_64 windows 7 or xp on it. Also, i wont be using an aftermarket cooler initially because i dont intend to do much ocing but after i get a lil bit more money i will buy and aftermarket cooler and push that 955 to about 3.8 ghz or somehwhere around that (im a beginner overclocker), but i heard that you can oc .2 ghz right out of the box with stock cooler (since its just a downclocked 965 in the first place). What do you guys think of this build? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007&Tpk=antec%20earthwatts%20ea500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102858 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131668 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147144&cm_re=destroyer-_-11-147-144-_-Product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226103&cm_re=mushkin_blackline-_-20-226-103-_-Product for the ram i chose mushkin over xms 3 for the better timings but is it worth paying 14 dollars more? Black64 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 That GPU is no longer available. (check ebay) Excellent choice of mobo. Asus has great OCing. For your ram question I would say no.

For your ram question I would say no. i already bought the gpu a year ago for 159 dollars so im safe on that. so if it is not worth getting the mushkin, which ram should i get? I was also thinking for getting crucial ballistix but my friend told me that they sucked (he called them blowsticks).
Black64 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Here is what I use. This ram is great for AMD CPU's and is cheaper then what you picked out. G skill ram If you still want 2by2 here is the same thing only in 2by2 G skill ram Edited March 13, 2011 by Black6464
Black64 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 to answer your 2 new questions. 1. no it won't work right it may boot but be really slow.( I've done it before) 2.Never OC on the stock cooler. Just get an after market first to be safe.
katokato Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 the gskill ripjaws x dual sticks should still work on an am3 mobo even though its designed for the p67 mobo right? personally which one would you go, x2sticks = 4gb or x1stick = 4gb? davemonkey Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 xp will most likely boot and immediately blue screen like mine did

Black64 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Same speed, same memory amount, why pay more?
potatochobit Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 it is better to run two sticks of memory in AMD systems for dual channel instead of 1 stick so you want 2x 2GB though it doesnt really matter
