just buy a new SB (socket 1155) with i5 2500K and some new DDR3 memory and you will be set for a good while. no need to upgrade the rest right now!

Make sure you get the new B3 stepping on the chipset (the first batch was faulty)

 

How do I find out if a given motherboard is with B3 stepping? I tried to look on a random motherboard's home page but couldn't find anything regarding batch, stepping or B3 :/

 

Also... jesus why so many options? >_<

BTW; I'm gonna have to get a new case as well, since the one I've got atm can't have the side panel on due to the Noctua NH-D14 lol

 

So don't filter out E-ATX motherboards if they are worth getting, because it can't fit in my ATX case

If possible, maybe someone can tell me what speed the ddr3 dimms should have (I know at least 1066MHz, because of the motherboard, but do perhaps I need to go higher?) - Also: 4GB DDR3 still enough for gaming right?

My Nocuta NH-D14 cooler is compatible with socket 1155 right? I read somewhere that socket 1155 and 1156 has identical mounting

New socket - get 1155. If you're interested in parting out with your old system, PM me, I'm hunting for older hardware.

 

As for the dimms, don't get anything below 1333 mhz. If possible, aim for 1600.

 

Yes, 4 gb ddr3 is ok for gaming... For now. I game on 4 gb of ddr2 and it runs perfectly for me. Then again, they're overclocked to ddr3 speeds with ddr2 timings.
