Where's the 10ghz CPU's that were predicted?

Did anyone else notice how he said that "Moore's Law states that the number of transistors in a common microprocessor will double every 18 months" and then went started doubling the clock speeds instead of the transistor count every 18 months. Maybe Moore's law breaks down when architecture updates give similar processing power with less transistors. Maybe someone who can be bothered can calculate if the number of transistors has doubled since the year 2000?

Btw, Skynet should have just made a lot of Velociraptor and T-Rex Terminators. Not like a bullet's going to take any of them down, and they'd be much faster.

Doubling transistors doesn't necessarily double the clock speed.

why stop there why not got 5THz on 300 cores with 1000 threads with 25watt TDP.

 

 

Well, 300 cores with 1000 threads would be 3.333 threads/core and odd numbers don't sound cool. I'll go with 5 THz though, lol.

 

Northrop Grumman, under a contract with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Terahertz Electronics program, has developed a new Terahertz Monolithic Integrated Circuit that more than doubles the frequency of the previously reported fastest integrated circuit.

 

"The success of the THz Electronics program will lead to revolutionary applications such as THz imaging systems, sub-mm-wave ultra-wideband ultra-high-capacity communication links, and sub-mm-wave single-chip widely tunable synthesizers for explosive detection spectroscopy," said John Albrecht, THz Electronics program manager for DARPA.

They always thought they were gonna get 10ghz until it turned out there was this thing called Heat... Then some genius was watching an Action movie and saw a guy with 2 pistols kill more people than a guy with 1 machine gun... Thus the Dual-core was born, no more 10ghz!!
