The Unofficial Battlefield 3 Thread

Recommended Posts

Wow the mantling/vaulting in this game is pure awesome. It looks like its setup like Brink. You sprint towards a low wall or something and you see your character automatically jump over it (from the uStream).

The Operation Metro level looks pretty cool too, but haven't had the chance to see people blowing up walls or in vehicles in this part of the map yet :(

Support class can get points for suppressive fire :D

If I heard correctly dedicated servers only through server providers like BC2.

Ha! Some Respawn Entertainment guys were at the BF3 Game Room (one was an artist, not sure about the other).

Flashlights can distort players, hell yea.

Squad size is confirmed to be 4 players with a squad leader (enemies can see who the squad leader is :D)

From GameSpot

You can shoot out lights to darken places :D

From Planet Battlefield:

  •
  • Tank footage show at EA press conference is possibly the first mission in the game
  • New suppression system -
  • Operation Metro - rush gamemode, close combat, play as U.S. Marines, take on Russian forces in heart of Paris, infantry focus
  • Operation Metro objective is to take back Stock Exchange
  • Team Deatchmatch, Conquest, Rush gamemodes confirmed
  • Battle Log - hub for social Battlefield experience
  • 4 classes tuned for teamplay - Assault (medic abilities), Engineer (anti-vehicle, repair), Support (give ammo, suppressive fire), Recon (main focus supplying intel)
  • Heavily focused on unlocks, more than any Battlefield game, customization key
  • Engineer has flashlight under-slung on weapon for lighting up area, blinding enemy
  • Every weapon has 3 customization slots (barrels, etc)
  • Support solider has bi-pod - placed on any surface in game (more accuracy)
  • New feature called Suppression - all the bullets you fire at an enemy affect them regardless if you hit them or not. All the bullets you fire that get close enough will start to reduce their combat efficiency. Squad can then flank the enemy and you will receive a Suppression score.
  • Jets, boats, tanks, helicopters confirmed
  • LAV-25 Light Armored Vehicle confirmed, also in Operation Metro
  • Dog tags - fully customizable, dynamically updated, only obtainable from knife kills in the back
  • Knifing system more dramatic, spectacular

  • On the death screen it now displays statistics of how many times you have killed the person who killed you and how man times they killed you (e.g. 2-1)
  • When deployed it displays on the bottom of the screen a countdown of when a squad member can spawn on you, and when they spawn who it is
  • Most of the rifles that we played with had 3 fire mode : automatic, semi-automatic, and single shot
  • After you are killed the health of the person who killed you is shown as a heath bar over their head
  • When your in a vehicle and stopped the camera begins to shake from the rattling of the engine
  • Flashlight can blind you momentary if someone points it directly at you
  • 100 points for killing someone, 10 extra points for a headshot, 100 points for reviving
  • In order to revive you must hover over the dead body and hold down left mouse button while your character rubs the paddles together and charges them before the player is revived
  • 2 grenades were given by default
  • In order to knife in this build of the game you need to press “f” to do “quick knife”. When pressed you enter into an animation that will pull you close to your enemy and you will grab their head and execute them by slitting their throat
  • You can only obtain an enemy’s dog tag if the “quick knife” command is done when you are behind your enemy
  • The knife seems more like a switchblade than the classic knife we are used to
  • Commo rose is not in the build we played. EA wouldn't give us a firm yes or not when asked if it would be in the final version of the game

Overall the game was very smooth for something that is pre-alpha. We never notices any framerate loss while we were playing. The game has a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 feel, but it's a lot more than that. If you try to jump over something you don't just simply jump, you see an animation of your solider leaping over. It's Bad Company 2 on crack with mind-blowing graphics, more intense gameplay, amazing weapon customization, superb animations, and most important of all it's the most fun we have had playing a Battlefield game.

This game had me at hello ...ever since the 1st Trailer leaked I have just been irritated I cannot play it right now. I probably should take the time to start mapping out a new computer build for this game. I probably should stop watching the trailers and get to it...

easier said than done

While they're at it, they need to fix:

Let us lock our vehicles so idiots can't jump in and reveal our position by ineffectually spraying the 50 cal at everything. Or, let us boot them from our vehicles if they're idiots

Team votes for kicking players that do stupid things like sit in the vehicles at the main just to keep the team from using them. Get a life, sheesh. :withstupid:

Fix the damage system so that when we know we are aiming properly and see splash damage, the unit actually experiences damage. Anyone firing tank rounds at the helicopters knows what I am talking about.

Helicopters are too powerful and rule the game in the hands of a good pilot. One person should not be able to decimate another team entirely on a 32 player server.

Let us Exit the damn game without having to wait for the Join screen to appear.

Better squad management

How about, when a squad is locked the vehicles are locked?

4 different people from 4 different squads shouldn't be in a tank together anyways. XD

Locking vehicles would really only create problems and limit the amount of teamwork that could be done. There would be a bunch of idiots locking the vehicles just so they can have it all to themselves.

Vote kicking is something that would drastically improve the game for sure.

Not sure what you're talking about with the damage, I'm guessing you mean the tank round should have an affect on something just by passing by. I usually hit helicopters when using a tank so it's not a problem for me.

I think helicopters are fine the way they are, I think if a person is a good pilot then that should show because those things aren't easy to pilot. I'm not too bad at them myself but most players can't even get them off the ground. I think they should find a way to make them easier to land though, most of the time they flip on me for no reason when I try to land them.

Also, a lot of this stuff is probably going to be a lot different anyway. From the sound of it, you're describing BFBC2, it's my understanding that the real Battlefield games play very differently from the Bad Company series of them.

How about, when a squad is locked the vehicles are locked?

4 different people from 4 different squads shouldn't be in a tank together anyways. XD

I think that's a terrible idea because most people don't want to do the same thing really. I would imagine the only time that's an exception is when the squad actually communicates, which you can't easily do while flying a helicopter, believe me I've tried.

In the end you would probably just end up with a bunch of squads of 2 that are locked and then new players that join won't be able to even join a squad. I already see a lot players lock theirs squads when there is only them in the squad, the game might be team focused but the players are often still call of duty lone wolfs.

I'm pretty sure you can lock squads in BC2 and older BF games.

Locking vehicles on other hand has its pros and cons. I think it would led to more frustration rather than benefit. You think people trolling vehicles is bad without this system, wait until you play a BF with it enabled lol. You would be surprised by simply asking people to exit a vehicle so your squad member can get in actually works (except for helicopters or jets :D)

Locking vehicles works well in Red Orchestra, because the vehicles aren't arcade controls. They really require communication to use. The Driver isn't also the Turret Gunner. The Driver is the pure driver. The Turret Gunner is the pure Turret Gunner. And so forth with the other positions. Let alone only Tank Crewmen class can operate tanks.

Pure vehicle classes wouldn't be a good idea for BF3 though. It's style of gameplay isn't that restrictive.

Votekicking was enabled on BF2 servers, but as far as I remember no one would ever got votekicked cause no one noticed the voting prompt haha. With 64 player server its best to have an Admin vs people who can gang up and abuse votekicking.

Helicopters at times can be quite overpowering. If you don't think helicopters are overpowering then you obviously haven't played BF2 where its not restricted to such a low height ceiling as in BC2. Even in BC2 they can be overpowering and those good players will get in that helicopter time and time again. 95-1 BF2 Chopper is pretty clear to prove my statement.

All they need to balance helicopters is offering more ways to shoot them down. Point of Existence 2 mod for BF2 added in shoulder fired anti-air rockets (like the Stinger). There were also anti-air missile turrets, but they are rather easy to take out with a helicopter. Allowing the Engineer to swap from Anti-Personnel to Anti-Tank to Anti-Air rounds is the best way to counter these elements (that's how Point of Existence 2 mod did it, screw Project Reality :P)
