will my Intel Core2duo E7200 bottleneck my GTX 460?

Recommended Posts

Will my Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.4Ghz(OCed) bottleneck my EVGA GTX 460 768Mb?

The reason I'm asking is because my EVGA Geforce 9800GTX+ recently died and the replacement card there sending me is a GTX 460.

It would have been nice if they where sending me the 1GB version but the 768Mb version is better than my old card so I'm not gonna complain.

EDIT: I also forgot to state that the card is arriving tomorrow. biggrin.gif

Heres the GTX 460

Thanks in advance!

VERY nice upgrade, was your 9800GTX+ a 512MB model?? if so hush :P

Hahaha.. Yes it was the 9800GTX+ 512MB version. Gotta love EVGA man...

I was just wondering would this be a bottleneck? XD

It's certainly a possibility, though I can't be sure. My best guess is that you'll be fine if you were fine with your 9800GTX+, since it certainly won't HURT your performance.

shouldn't bottleneck it much at your clocks, but can you get it any higher??

Of course I can I've gotten it on 4.7Ghz before.. I was a beginner at the time and I didn't pay attention to temps lol... It was around 70C idle while on a stock cooler....

I immediately lowered it to 3.0 Ghz or something.

I had it at 3.6Ghz stable for a long time on a Cooler Master 212 until I decided to lower it to 3.4Ghz to lower the temperature of the room.

In other words I've overclocked the **** outta my little friend here several times. I tried to hit 4.2Ghz stable but the temps where just unbearablepinch.gif..

I didn't read idle at first and I thought you said load and i was about to say "RUN STOCK COOLER AND 4.7GHZ!"

It was a while ago when I did 4.2GHz. If I remember correctly it was around 50C-55C idle or higher.
