mojunikey7 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) Alright, so I have almost ran out of patience with my PS3, which is brand freaking new. I Downloaded Vuze so I could watch some of my favorite movies on my new TV, and the MP4 files are freezing about every three seconds. I have researched and researched this problem, and apparently PS3's are picky to the point of spoiled about which movies they will play. I got mine to play 9 different .AVI files (all of the .AVI files I have) So i have decided to convert my entire library to .AVI (about 600gb) I know that this will take a while regardless, but as of now I can not even find a good MP4 to .AVI converter. The only converters I can find are for freaking iPhones and other iCrap. Can anybody suggest a good, streamlined video converter that isn't going to install a billion toolbars unless I tell them not to, or ask for my email address, or any of the janky stuff? dr_bowtie Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I havent found anything good... I have tried WinAVI several times but it has sound sync issues but it will convert them....you may have better luck than I do. I have used Format factory and its done great....In fact I rather liked it. although if you care to read AVI has been outdated for a long time and hasnt been updated in longer...I just converted to MP4-H264 format using Handbrake as mentioned by another forum member and it also works flawless.... mojunikey7 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 ALright, I give up. My PS3 flat out will not play MP4 files. Period. Back to good ole' low-def .AVI for me. Great.
hardnrg Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 go to videohelp.com and look in the Convert section for PS3 conversion a PS3 is a very capable video player (it's a benchmark Blu-ray player)... I've converted all types of 720p and 1080p video files into MP4 (x264 + AAC) and they all play flawlessly... a really easy program to use is XVID4PSP... it can convert video files to play on iPods, PS3, PSP, etc... just select the PS3 preset... I've used it for PSP and PS3 with 100% success rate another program that I use is much more complex program and called MeGUI... it sounds like it might be too advanced for you, as you'd have to be fairly familiar with video conversion to be able to use it (it's not a one-click and go program)
Jump4h Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 (edited) If I understood this correctly, you wish to play video files from your PC to your PS3, I recommend using PS3 media server. It streams files from your PC to your PS3. It plays every single file I have ever tried, except raw fraps recorded clips. MKV files work, with subtitles, as do AVI. I am quite sure that it will play mp4 files as well. Edited December 31, 2010 by Jump4h

WhenKittensATK Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Yea if you're streaming PS3 Media Server is the way to go or TVersity. I prefer PS3 Media Server though. Much easier to use and setup.
IVIYTH0S Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 I never got any kind of streaming to PS3 to work as good as just jacking my laptop into my TV. There were always codecs that did not stream properly (yes H.264 was one of them, probably x264 too I think)
