Various CPU Temperature Comparisons

Yuma... Today it was nice and cool though. 77.5f now on the front porch. I think on the average it's a bit warmer here. But then I haven't looked at a weather map in ages....

The temps can make overclocking a bit difficult. Especially since I'm used to the heat. And when I lower the temps enough to make much of a difference to the computer. It's too cold for me..

Where at in AZ? I'm down in Tucson. Even with the rain it was high 70s here today. Before the rain it was hovering around 90 already lol

I believe I have some of the lowest temps posted on this section, for an air cooled system, and in some cases lower than water cooled. I have overclocked this i7 920 to 4.2gb + (verified and posted on CPUID's web site). But it is like a Dragster, you run it FULL OUT at max horsepower it doesn't last very long. That is why I throttled it back to 3.8gb.

I noticed MANY of you people running your Intel's at VERY high temps during load testing, 70c +. If you check with Intel, they will highly advise not exceeding 70c at ANY given time. Intel advises not exceeding 68c. Just a word of caution.

Motherboard- Asus P6X58 Premium

Processor- i7-920 2.6 ghz @ 3.8ghz CPU Cooler- Coolmaster Hyper Z600 w/2-120mm push pull fans

P/S Unit- Ultra LSP 750w

HD's- 1TB WD Caviar Blk SATA 6

2xWD Caviar Blk 500gb SATA 6 Raid0

Ram- 6gb G.Skill DDR3 1600

Video- 2xNvidia 9800 GT+1G SLI

Case- Coolmaster 932 HAF Monster Case

@ above,

I went to look that up and you are right. I have been told that under 90 is fine while benching but Tcase for i7 930 is 69C, i am folding 24/7 and i am at 65C while running stock. at 3.8 that number is 75C normally.

Intel overestimates so I dont really worry about Tcase max . I just like to keep it under 80C under heavy stress and in the 70's under heavy gaming

Did some tests this morning on my i7 920 D0 ... Im going to import either some 3000rpm Scythes or 5500rpm Delta's later this year ...

i7 920 D0 @ 2.33GHz stock at stock voltage with Corsair H70 Push/Pull 2000rpm fans at idle of 32C and load of 50C at an ambiant of 24C

i7 920 D0 @ 3GHz at 1.192v with Corsair H70 Push/Pull 2000rpm fans at idle of 32C and load of 52C at an ambiant of 24C

i7 920 D0 @ 3.5GHz stock at 1.232v with Corsair H70 Push/Pull 2000rpm fans at idle of 33C and load of 58C at an ambiant of 24C

i7 920 D0 @ 3.927GHz at 1.272v with Corsair H70 Push/Pull 2000rpm fans at idle of 34C and load of 65C at an ambiant of 24C

i7 920 D0 @ 4GHz at 1.296v with Corsair H70 Push/Pull 2000rpm fans at idle of 35C and load of 68C at an ambiant of 24C

i7 920 D0 @ 4.158GHz at 1.3375v with Corsair H70 Push/Pull 2000rpm fans at idle of 40C and load of 80C at an ambiant of 25C

UPDATED

I'll get some temps from my budget LGA775 rig later this afternoon ...

But Im begining to wonder if the jump from 4GHz to 4.158GHz is worth 10C ...

Mine are a little weird:

Q6600 @ 2.7GHz

Hyper 212+

Idle 44C (cores around 27), Load 53C (cores around 36)

which one to trust? Also the temps doesn't vary by much (even between 1.5GHz-3.05GHz)

Idle stays at 40-45C (25-30 cores) and load 50-60C (35-45 cores), depending on how i clock it.

Ambient is around 18-22C

Which temp monitor are you using ? I would use what core temp gives you for the cores

While the idea behind this is neat the information is about meaningless. For any kind of accurate gauage you need a number of variables account for that are not.

CPU Temp is effected by the following factors:

1) Clockspeed

2) Voltage

3) Cores

4) position is wfer production ( a chip made day one of the chips production will typcially not run as cool as one made day 200. the production process gets more refined)

5) room air temperature

6) heatsink

7) thermal compound

8) case design

9) number of case fans

10) software used to stress the CPU

11) length of time the stress was run before measuring

12) software used to measure the temp

While the comparisions can be neat it is impossible to build an accurate chart system without taking all varibales into account.

Well you can make one with all of your info :P People wouldn't respond if you ask too much of them

Its just to get a rough idea of temps with different coolers

My buddy in SA has a pair of 3k Delta 100CFM's and 2 Panaflo's at around 120CFM that Im buying off him for cheap so the H70 will get the Delta's and the 2 of the 3 top extraction fans will be the 2 Panaflo's and a 2k CM Red LED
