GodlyManDude540 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Ok so my friends computer comes up ith an error that says "Fan Failure press f2 to continue" something along those lines. I have checked all the fans and everything seems fine and plugged in correctly. So now i have no clue. Any Ideas?
spectrascope Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 It general means that it doesn't have connected to the fan power plug on the mobo for the cpu, or a way for it to read the rpms of said fan.
GodlyManDude540 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) The cpu fan is plugged into the correct spot and its working and b4 he put it in a new case it didnt come up with the error. paulktreg Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I know it's a pain in the backside but try it out of the case and see if the error is still present. Are all the motherboard stand-offs in the correct place?
oh_fubar Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 this is interesting to me . Have had the same problem since I moved everything from the HP case into a Lexa S I didn't connect any of the case fans to the motherboard at all . Would that cause the error? GodlyManDude540 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Wow how strange. The computer is an HP and he moved it into a new case (NZXT Phantom) and the only fan connected to the mobo is the cpu fan. Could it be that the rear exhaust is no longer plugged into the mobo? Would that cause this? Yes the standoffs are in the correct place and yes it still has the error out of the case.
sticknstone Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 The fan failure error display is due to a setting in the bios which is the sys fan failure alert option. Disabling the alert or connecting all the fans from the previous case will clear all error message displays.
GodlyManDude540 Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I have checked the bios and there is no fan error settins or any fan settings that I cansee or access
oh_fubar Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 (edited) same here no fan error settings in my bios either this thingy is a M2N78-LA ( violet) made by Asus I think reasons for not connecting the rear case fan to the MO , the case comes with fan controllers , can't use them with the MO Edited December 7, 2010 by oh_fubar

sticknstone Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 "Fan Failure press f2 to continue" message is displayed when? POST or windows? If it is POST then the bios has the ability to determine the fan status, and probably have some type of fan rpm display.
