Neural Interface Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Hmm I know this is devious and wrong but is it possible to buy a game (keep the serial and then bring it back and say "it wouldnt work on my computer and act dumb becuase I think this has happened to me
caffeinejunkie Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 It would probably work if you were careful opening the box. You'll also want a good reason for why your returning it. If they ask you if you used it it would be in your best intrest to say no.
Neural Interface Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 It was just that I was think that i bought a game a couple of years ago (I was a n00b) and it wouldnt work online (serial in use) and I think that this is what happened to me I feel like I want to exact revenge though, hmmm ethics
Aliencam Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 you bad person... if i bought a game and the serial was in use, someone would loose their head... but its unlikely that they kept the cd key and returned it to the store, they probably just randomly got that key out of a keygen... bad people... stealing game cds.. people actuialy need that money that they would make from you buying the game... Special_K Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 that what everyone i know does unless they can get a serial to work online with a key gen
ClayMeow Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 technically, nowadays, by law stores aren't supposed to accept any software that appear open or used in anyway, regardless of the excuse. So you'd have to be very careful opening it, or know a store that's very lenient. i remember awhile back i saw a copy of counterstrike in one of the discount bins or whatever, and the cdkey was right there on the back of the cd...i contemplated writing it down, but i actually have a halflife cd, so i didn't...i probably shoulda just in case mine gets stolen, but owell. Neural Interface Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 There is some catches that I never thought of, most of the stores require you to right down your name and adress when you return something, suppose you could still give them fake details

Sly_C Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 depending on where u bought it, i know my parents bought me bf1942 from walmart and it doesn't work right on my comp and i took it back and they let me exchange it for halo. FanATIc205 Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 most places only let you exchange it for the same game. but the bottom line is its wrong and if alot of people do it game prices will slowly start to rise.
AMDOCuser Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 (edited) First off I think it completely wrong... Imagine if you did that with say W3, and then some poor little kid buys it after it has been put back on the self, then he can't get on to battlenet because you're using his cd key. Plus It would be almost impossible to do. I know a lot of stores will not let you return an open box game unless it is defective, and only return it for the same game. I've also read some where before that the chance of getting a real manufactor cd key from a key gen is worst than your chance of winning the lotto. I'm no saint, I have games that I've DLed, but if you really like the game and want to be able to play it online, then just cough up the money for it.
