AMD's 6xxx series scaling improvements?

I wanna wait til the 6970 comes out to see if i should go with one of those or the GTX 580, its just with my experience with the 5xxx series, the drivers and crossfire scaling is, well, not that great, but mediocre, compared to nvidia's drivers and SLI scaling. How much has the 6xxx series crossfire scaling improved over the 5xxx series scaling? (10% better? 20% better? 30% better? etc...) Is it as good as SLI? And, has AMD's drivers gotten any better?

Well if the 6850 and 6870 are any indication the scaling is like 80-90% most of the time. So 180-190% of the performance of a single card. That's about the same degree of scaling as the GTX 460 SLI which was incredible.

 

To be put it in example, the 6870 is weaker than a 5870 or GTX 470 individually but Crossfire 6870s easily beats Crossfire 5870 or Sli 470. In fact in a few cases it's even almost on the same level as GTX 480s in sli.

yes, the 6870 CF is a little bit better than the CF 5870, the difference is microscopic though, so its performance over the 5870 is negligible. I tested a CF setup of the 6870 while playing BFBC2 and it only got 3 more FPS than the CF 5870s.....not that much of a difference.

IDK what else to say to this, but....the 6970 isnt replacing the 5870 on the 6k side! The fact that the 6870 matches the CF 5870 is amazing considering the fact that they are midrange cards, and the power and heat difference. Get with modern technology pls. Using less power and heat to generate the same results with performance is advancement.

If he was CPU bound in that scenario then his results would be valid for that combination. Unless you run the same combination then you cant make valid comparisons from one person to another.

The fact that the 6870 matches the CF 5870 is amazing considering the fact that they are midrange cards, and the power and heat difference. Get with modern technology pls. In these multiple benchmarks it clearly shows that the CF 6870 and the CF 5870 are neck and neck next to each other, the 6870 in no way surpasses the 5870, individually or CF.

Uh no. Most of the cases showed a single 5870 was stronger than a 6870 (5 of 7 games) but xfire 6870s were stronger than xfire 5870s.

If someone is in the market for a card right now, for under $300, then the 6870 should clearly be close to the top of the list! My point wasn't about 3fps gains or losses for that matter, its insignificant and missing what I said completely. But, there should be nothing but good things to say about AMD coming out with this generation of midrange gpus performing as well as the previous gen high end cards. R u kidding me? That's a great sign! I'm confussed as to why I even have to point this fact out

not in these benchmarks, the CF 6870 is only at most, 1-3 fps higher than CF 587os.

im dying to see how well the 6970s compare to the 580s.......the new cayans, i think, will blow fermi outta the water.
