Holy @#$!, I always got a bad feeling whenever I messed with the Foxconn brand...geez I am GLAD I'm an ASUS and MSI kinda guy. That's just...disturbing but sadly, not surprising. slick2500 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Well the article does bring up a valid point, would you rather these people be working or starving? Even if they have to work in such conditions.
Shadowtroop Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) they dont have to work there. . . . Edited October 25, 2010 by Shadowtroop
Deathmineral Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Well the article does bring up a valid point, would you rather these people be working or starving? Even if they have to work in such conditions. Apparently some of them chose option C, jump off the building and force the employer to install safety nets. El_Capitan Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Well the article does bring up a valid point, would you rather these people be working or starving? Even if they have to work in such conditions. Or would you rather keep those jobs in the country where the unemployment rate is 11%? They work in those conditions because it's cheaper and not regulated, unlike how it is in the USA. In the end, it's all about the company's bottom line. The ends justify the means. Instead of: My net worth is $5.5 billion dollars, it's not my problem. They have a job because of me, they should be happy with it. It could be: My net worth is $5.5 billion dollars, I'm one lucky motherfuzzbucket. If I were in their shoes, it wouldn't be right, so let's do something about it. That's why I like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
wevsspot Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 We've made our bed. Now we as individuals and others around the world have to lay in it..................
Memnoch93 Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Here's an article that goes a little bit deeper into this issue. Made in China: Tech, Ethics, and Economics And it should be noted that foxconn products permeate other manufacturers products too, the cpu socket on your asus motherboard was probably made by foxconn, and the standard cooler for your amd cpu was probably made by foxconn. SpeedCrazy Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Seems like a pretty vicious, 'vicious circle'. We take away their jobs, they die of starvation, we give them jobs they kill themselves to keep them. And we support this. What do Gou (or whetever his name is) and jobs actually do with their XX.XX Billions? Sit on it! Would it hurt them to loosen up, let them relax (i mean come on how many of us could work 12 hours a day without talking to someone, most of us text email talk to 100s of people every day, or atleast hundreds of instances every day) Jobs and Gou could loose more than the average Chinese laborer make in 10 lifetimes and not blink. And we wonder why this country is falling down around our heads.
paulktreg Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I believe it's something like 1% of the population has 99% of the wealth in China, possibly a little exaggerated but I'm sure you get the point. Is this situation sustainable? I personally see trouble on the horizon.

No they wouldn't miss that money, but if their wages were forced down and pumped into the worker's wages that would be socialism, and apparently that's bad. If only fair trade existed. SpeedCrazy Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I was not advocating socialism, that would be a worse mess. What i meant is, they could: 1. voluntarily give up some of their wages. 2. Invest in organizations working for the betterment of living/working conditions in the laborers countries. 3. They could decide to raise wages, but according to that article they are already to high(well not really) so they could hire more laborers and work them lighter. Any one of these options could help the situation.
