DVD disc tray pops open

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and at the same time I installed a new DVD/CD burner, LITEON model iHAS424-98A. Now, when I merely highlight the burner (E:\) in Windows Explorer, it automatically opens the disc tray if there is no disk in it, and gives a message "Please insert a disc into drive E:." I do not want this to happen because my computer case has a door that covers the drive bays, and I'm afraid that the DVD burner will damage itself if it tries to open when the case door is closed. So, I don't know if this is a property of the burner itself, or a property of Windows 7. Maybe then I can find out how to cancel this "feature". Any ideas??
