sdy284 Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 so i'm toying with the idea of buying a netbook/laptop. I've got around $400 to spend but will spend 500 if I can really get a lot more for the extra $100 requirements: ** i'd like a screen larger than 10" ** HD space doesn't matter ** best CPU i can get for the $$ so go ahead, recommend away
El_Capitan Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Well sdy284, last year around mid November, I got this for $588.61: I sold the 2GB DDR3 and the 320GB 5400RPM HDD, replaced it with 4GB DDR3 from my previous laptop, and installed a SSD (Corsair P128). It's got a 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery that lasts 5 hours doing anything, but it juts out and sometimes gets released from it's latch if you pull it a certain way with a decent amount of force. If you're interested in that, I'd be willing to sell it to you for $500 (I'd pay for shipping, too), but instead of the Corsair P128, it'd come with a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 200GB HDD. El_Capitan Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Yeah, that's all. But I don't dim the laptop screen when it's on battery power. If it was on more conservative settings, I'm sure it'd last longer.

TheHippi Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) See if you can find one of those Ion 2 netbooks. From what I've heard they run really well. Edit: Like this one. The main advantage one of these has over a regular netbook is that it can play 1080p without stuttering. WhenKittensATK Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 (edited) You try out this chart made by BestNetbookReviews (says updated Oct. 10th) Categories Best Budget Netbooks (10.1 inch) Best Netbooks in terms of performance, battery life, and price (10.1 inch) Best Mutimedia Netbooks (11.6 or 12.1 inch) Each category has a nice breakdown of specs and prices, including a review for each. =========== If you're looking for something with a little more power and sometimes (sales) in the price range of a netbook. You can check out CULV laptops such as the one I own in the Sig. Less battery life than a netbook, but a bit more performance and still in a small package. However I can't think of any specific recommendations for either a netbook or a CULV laptop.
