It may be older but it looks like a very capable rig. Gaming wise I dont think you will see a massive improvement.

Nothing wrong with your parts selection although I would probably look at the gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3. Similar dollars but a a few more features with Sata III and USB3 support.

It doesn't look bad at all. Given the other choices they gave considering your budget I would say yes go with that combo in particular. Or if you can make a move to AMD then that wouldn't be bad either. Though the only change I would make is the G-skill memory. This is more of a personal preference.

Me personally If I was to wait a few months and raise the budget I would get this combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.519735

And i would also upgrade the power supply to an 800 or in that ball park and get another 5870. :D

Good luck, Hope everything works out well for you.

What's your primary use of the computer, if it's gaming keep what you have.

If you're looking at very CPU intense things like video rendering/encoding and what not than get the i7.

I'm wondering if you can overclock your Q9400 any higher than 3.2ghz, THAT's where you'll see some benefit to everything and it's also free. If you cant overclock anymore than maybe it would be better to dump it

also, better memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226154
