Imagine Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Hi, all I've just began folding and I have one question... Is it possible to fold on my CPU and GPU simultaneously? My CPU is pumping out data quite nicely but it's my little GT220 I'm worried about.
OwinC Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) Yes it is possible to fold on both the processor as well as the graphics card. http://folding.stanf...ownloadWinOther use the Windows: V6 GPU2 You should see around 1500-2000 ppd on the card alone. SpeedCrazy Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I don't mean to hijack your thread but this is related. can you fold on multiple cores? I have a client running on 1 core and its alright but kinda slow and i rarely use all 4 cores.

I've gotten it to work once, but then I reformatted and now no matter what I do I can't it to work.
SpeedCrazy Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I tried that but i crashed 2 in a row so quit and hoped there was another alternative. Sigh. Stanford will have to wait till i get my new GPU. A 460 and 1 core @2.8 should do pretty good.
IVIYTH0S Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 you can open 4 seperate console folding windows (3 CPU and 1 GPU) that's the best method
endorphiend Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 It's called the SMP client, but honestly it's the trickiest thing I have ever seen. I've gotten it to work once, but then I reformatted and now no matter what I do I can't it to work. I didn't have many issues setting up the SMP client. I set it up a few months ago, but here is what I believe I did. 1) Download the SMP2 client here, currently it is the last item on the page: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther 2) Unzip it somewhere. Mine is in C:/FAH-SMP 3) For maximum points, make sure you get a passkey. Bonuses are huge (usually 6x the worth of the unit, or more). You can get a passkey here, plug it in during the following step when it asks for the passkey. http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py 4) Follow the directions here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinSMPGuide 5) To run F@H, open the command prompt, navigate to your SMP directory and run : fah6 -smp 8 <-- Assuming 8 cores (4 cores + hyperthreading), insert however many cores you have to fold on. Hope this helps. If you need clarification or run into issues, don't hesitate to ask. Also don't forget to put in team 12772!
CowKing Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 nope, still only does 50%
endorphiend Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 nope, still only does 50% In task manager -> performance tab, how is the load distributed? Half your cores @ 100%, or all your cores at 50%?
CowKing Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 all cores at 50%
ivangela Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 all cores at 50% Go to this link here on OCC. I had issues and they were finally cleared up, now I fold on 4 cores, 100%, 24/7...plan to add GPU folding soon, even though my GPU sux, but as a wise folder (Endorphiend) once told me, every PPD counts! CowKing Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 yep, still 50%. It even sees the argument "-smp"
