Joker21 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hi All, I wanted to go the SSD route for a while now, but I am wondering if I should wait until closer to Christmas to buy a SSD or should I buy it now! I have my eyes on OCZ Vertex 2 Extended Series (120Gb), I was wondering what you guys thought of it? Is it worth it? Should I wait until Christmas? Us there a better one for around the same price (260 Can$)? Thanks again, Joker21
Water_Hazard Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I have 2 of the OCZ Agility 2 120gb drives and think they are great. Im sure the Vertex 2 drives are just as good. For the price, I don't think performance will get much better, but you may see prices drop closer to Christmas. If you want it now, and have the money for it now, then why not? Prices are almost always going to drop on high end parts like this, so no point in playing the waiting game, because you will be playing it forever. Joker21 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Thanks Water_hazard. I might just go and buy it! Another I saw was that it was firmware 1.11, any known issues with this firmware, since there isn't any other?
Water_Hazard Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Some people are reporting that their computer crashes when waking up from sleep mode, but there is suppose to be a new firmware out soon to fix that. Other than that, I haven't heard anything. I dont use sleep mode since my computer runs [email protected] when I am not on it. Here are some numbers from my newegg review on my 2 Agility 2 drives in raid0. This is from the first week I had them 6/23/10. Reads 4kb - 436.3mb/s 64kb - 475.4mb/s 256kb - 545.1mb/s 512kb - 551.5mb/s 1024kb - 556.6mb/s 2048kb - 556.6mb/s 4096kb - 556.6mb/s Writes 4kb - 505.6mb/s 64kb - 536.8mb/s 256kb - 535.5mb/s 512kb - 542.9mb/s 1024kb - 545.3mb/s 2048kb - 542.9mb/s 4096kb - 542.9mb/s And here is a run of them this morning 10/07/10. Also windows has not been reinstalled on them since I got them.

That issue has been identified and fixed. The fix will be included in the next firmware release which may be as soon as next week.
