need help, no networking on my computer

Hey,

I just bought a linksys wireless-n dual band PCI adapter, because the integrated wireless connection is no longer working in my computer. ( HP a6700y )

It says the adapter is not plugged in once i install the driver software from the disc, and I have gone through the steps multiple times.

I have even tried to use the system restore, but that wont work for some reason, it keeps giving me an error code, and says to try again.

I have also tried a wired connection, and my PC shows 2 ethernet ports, both not working, and my computer only has 1 port, so i have no idea what is going on here.
