DeathNote Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 So, I currently have a GTX 260 216 core and Im thinkin about upgrading it to get myself some better performance. Im looking at either a 5850, 5870, GTX 470 or GTX 480. Price isn't a huge issue, but I would like to keep it under $450-$500 The cards Im looking at currently are: 5870: XFX HD-587A-CNF9 Radeon HD 5870 2GB XFX HD-587X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5870 1GB 5850: XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB SAPPHIRE TOXIC 100282TXSR Radeon HD 5850 1GB GTX 470: EVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB EVGA 012-P3-1472-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked 1280MB GTX 480: EVGA 015-P3-1480-AR GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) 1536MB EVGA 015-P3-1482-AR GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) SuperClocked FTW 1536MB From that list, what do you guys think would be the best option? I've been using nVidia cards forever, but my buddy uses ATI and his seems to get a little better performance in-game than my GTX 260. I just cant decide which card would be the best bang for my buck, if that makes sense, lol I should also mention that I will be upgrading my computer soon also. It will have an AMD Phenom II x6 and 6GB of DDR3 1600.
IVIYTH0S Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Do you know if you're able to enable SLI on that board??
DeathNote Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 The board I selected atm can do CrossFire
El_Capitan Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 What resolution?
IVIYTH0S Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 The board I selected atm can do CrossFire Ya but there's almost always a way to enable SLI (even on non SLI boards) , and the strongest power for the money right now is running two 460 1GB's. Heck if you dont care about DX11 quite yet (since there aren't that many games with it), you could pick up another 260 for $110 and have the gaming performance of a 470/5870 or better
DeathNote Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 My current board is an ASUS M4A79 Deluxe It says its CrossFire supported, not SLI. How could I do that?
DeathNote Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Also, the cheapest 260 I see is about $170 (after MIR)

El_Capitan Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Asus GTX 460 1GB Overclocked edition for $175 plus free shipping. Can't beat that price, and overclocked gives you a GTX 470. It would be cheaper for you to get two of these and a new AM3 motherboard that supports SLI.

DeathNote Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 I currently have a OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W power supply, but it only has 2x PCI-E power connectors. Concern 1) Will this power supply support both of these cards? And if so, how can I get more PCI-E connectors, or do I even have to? Concern 2) What patch and bios do I update? Card, mobo, ???? Card, mobo, ???? 1)It's probably advisable that you upgrade to say a 750W with 4x6pin or 6+2pin connections, as it stands you cannot run more than that 260. 2) This I'm unsure of, I'm looking around here has some guy successful with two 8500's on your board: http://67.90.82.13/forums/showthread.php?t=235328 Might be in here: http://xdevs.com/e107_plugins/content/content.php?content.
