Looking to get into a netbook.

Recommended Posts

If I buy another computer, it's going to be a netbook. I don't want a laptop. My desktop is my powerhouse. I want something ultra-portable to take with me to class with really long battery life. Unless a laptop can last for upwards of five hours with constant use on a single charge and cost less than $400, I don't want one.

Now, I'm wondering about which of the following brands I should be looking at when I go to buy a netbook.

- ASUS

- Gateway

- MSI

- Sony

- Toshiba (I currently can't find a Toshiba netbook that costs less than $400, however)

Please note that I don't want to buy an Acer, HP, or Dell.

I don't mind the size of a netbook but they're too darn underpowered. Running YouTube on one browser tab and running facebook on another CHOKES the damn system. :yucky:

Get something more like 12". I had a netbook right after they first came out, but this summer I sold it and bought this gateway except with a different processor (1.4Ghz Core 2 Solo). The new size is much better both for screen resolution and for keyboard size. Plus it is like twice as powerful as my old netbook, and runs cooler. Overall just much nice than your average underpowered netbook, it will actually play 720p Youtube videos without stuttering. Plus I still get over 5 hours of battery life.

Or if you want more power you could get this.

Which ever brand you go for just dont go for manufacturers such a dell/alienware, toshiba, sony vaio, and gateway although it is made by acer there not as concentrated on perfection as the acer's themselves. I say dont get these makes because they are all crap, you will end up paying a lot more for less and if you get hardware failure you will find it hard to repair due to the terrible assembly process during manufacturing intended to make it easier for the manufacturer. If i was to choose a netbook/laptop i would certainly go for asus, acer, and msi, these are great manufacturers, great performance, great build quality and easy to repair if things go wrong.

For moderate performing netbooks, these are some suggestions

Aspire One 751

Wind12 U250

Asus 1215N-BLK054M

http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=1215N-BLK054M

Like i said these are modest netbooks but you will definitely get a good quality experience from them and you will get what you pay for, unlike the other manufacturers i mentioned.

Hope this helps.

OK. I will choose between an ASUS eee and an MSI Wind.

Like I said before, I do not want to use an Acer. I've had nothing but problems with EVERY Acer I've ever used.

Netbooks can be fun if you aren't doing much besides taking notes.

I had one for a while, but didn't really use it for much.

If I were to go back and have the choice again, I would have gotten a full sized laptop because it would have lasted me longer.
