GodlyManDude540 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 So is there any info on when intel is going to release a cheaper 6 core processor?
Locutus Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) So is there any info on when intel is going to release a cheaper 6 core processor? Dunno... Have you looked up the sandy bridge specs? There might be some decent 6-core CPUs in that line... "Some reports claim that six-core and eight-core Sandy Bridge-based designs will become available in Q2 2011 or later" Source. It's likely that these will be cheaper, and will probably drive down the prices of current 6-core intel CPUs Edited September 13, 2010 by Locutus
GodlyManDude540 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 (edited) Ah thats tooo long send them out now Hmm 8 cores will be interesting So... Nothing for 1366 anymore? Edited September 13, 2010 by GodlyManDude540
bp9801 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 Ah thats tooo long send them out now Hmm 8 cores will be interesting So... Nothing for 1366 anymore? Nope, Intel is moving to socket 1155 for duals and quads and socket 2011 for hexa and octo chips. No backwards compatibility either. GodlyManDude540 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 SO no hope for a hexa in 1366 other than the 980x?
bp9801 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 SO no hope for a hexa in 1366 other than the 980x? Well, there is the 970 that has been out for a while. Its slightly less expensive than the 980X at $900.
GodlyManDude540 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 900 is still a little much
bp9801 Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 900 is still a little much Especially considering a six-core from AMD tops out at one third the price of the cheapest Intel offering.

GodlyManDude540 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Yeah lol but I like both AMD and Intel I just want to upgrade my cpu for now and build another AMD rig in the next year or two
bp9801 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I don't think you need to upgrade your i7 920 anytime soon. Its still more than most things can handle and unless you need more than the 8 virtual threads it can offer, I don't think you need to spend the extra cash on a new processor. Maybe pop in an SSD to get better performance, but your processor should last a while longer still.
