Fallout 3's Galaxy News Radio (With THREEEEEEEE DAAAAAAAAAAAWG - "Bringing you the news, no matter how bad it hurts...") plays a lot of old music on it.

Prior to playing Fallout 3 I would rather have backed my head with a hammer then ever listen to that music.

Now I actually enjoy it as I think it added quite a bit of atmosphere to the game, wouldn't have been the same blasting through the wasteland with out it.

I actually ripped the music from the game files and I listen to them occasionally.

Thanks for starting this topic, I never thought to look up my favorite game music on YouTube before - dunno why. Listened to most of the stuff people posted, well till ppl started posting 5-7 at a time than I started cherry picking. Never finished Mass Effect but the song for the ending credits is better than I thought it would be ...8min tho! Holey Hell, that's like big budget movie long credits. Anyhow...

I'm not sure how this music will sound to anyone who hasn't played but I can easily pick out the game that stands out the most in my mind for best music, and it's because it does exactly what it should do... gives you that isolated feel while exploring an alien planet.

This first song plays with a soft hazy sunrise beating down on a snowy landscape with giant icicles melting and snow drifts blowing in occasionally. I can describe it and I haven't played this in probably 6 years.

The first song let's you know you are only up against small enemies that won't give you much resistance so you can focus on exploring. The beat picks up in more hostile areas. This next song darn near borders progressive house.

This next song plays when you're exploring a sunken pirate ship (pretty much a graveyard) and has that perfect under water vibe to it. It sounds relaxing during the day, but play this song at night with all the lights out in your place and explore your house/apt with this in the background ...suddenly it sounds completely different and has almost an eerie feel to it. Again, giving the gamer that isolated feel. There are tons of good gaming music and even though Metroid Prime is 7yrs old now I'm sure most who played the game will immediately remember the areas these songs go to.

Oh man, this game and Super Smash Bros. was the only reason I had a GameCube.

IMO it rivals HL2.
