rein Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 right now my overclocked 2500xp is running at 2.2ghz and my temperature is 1 degree below instability!!! (47c good---- 48c unstable). Now since we dont have 365 day winters Im gonna have a problem when summer comes along. Im actually lapping my heatsink today and tommorow Im gonna buy a new case and psu. I modded my original case with acrylic intakes and what have you, but the case and 350w psu just plain suck too much. (cramped design and I swear when my cpu load increases my fans slow down ps. might be in my head ) I have a few cases I was looking at and I would love some feedback. I am cuurently leaning towards the ANTEC SLK3700AMB which has two 120mm fans front and rear, and a 350w true power antec psu (2 fans). I was also looking at the ANTEC SLK3700BQE but Ive heard that the amb has better cooling. The other case was the chenbro gaming bomb - xpider with a 92mm fan upfront and a 120 mm in the rear. With that I was gonna get a thernal take 420w psu (very good reviews) wich also has 2 exhaust fans. Im not a hundred percent which setup would be better and personally the antec styling is more appealing but aesthetics arent everything Im hoping with lapping, better power and cooling my overclock can stay permanently any advice is appreciated thanks Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Sly_C Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 i would personally go with the first one 2x120 is better than 1x92 and 1x120 plus i like the look of the antec better. also u may ahve already thought about this but when summer comes is the A/C vent anywhere near ur comp. if not u can always get some ducting and duct the cold air into ur comp. After all, the case will go through several generations of hardware, so if you have to spend money on anything, let it be the case. That is a full tower case, and will definatly be worth the $$. I have seen in upwards of 13 or 14 80mm fans in that case, so 80mm or 120mm is not really an issue. Not only that, it is a cool looking case. d3bruts1d Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 Out of the cases you listed, I'd go with the Antec SLK3700AMB. I built a system for a customer a month ago using that case, and it's nice. I've not used the Chenbro Gaming Bomb - xPider, but the origional xPider was a nice case as well. Personally, I think the style of both those cases are way over used. But I'd go with the Antec. Silky Posted January 23, 2004 Posted January 23, 2004 (edited) There are cases for the look, and there are for the functions. I am from IT so I look at functions first. A case or chassis is to 1) protect the components inside from the elements including EMI, DUST and from your coffee. 2) Provide the necessary air flow to extract heat generated components such as HDD, memory, graphic card, CD drive, network, modem cards etc. So, if a case would give a couple degrees C higher than ambient temp and not may holes all over with a filter that I could clean or replace, I would certainly look into it. Next comes the LOOK. A paint job could cost over $500, just for the look, or a cheapo case could be had for less than $25. Aluminum job cost at least $80 plus PSU. But, a good case to me would be 1) 2x80 mm or 1x120 intake fan without ANY obstruction from the lower front 2) 2x80 mm or 1x120 rear exhaust and 3) 1 slow turning top blower; Nice low noise fans. With this in mind, choose your favorite color, steel or alum, window panel or no window, cathode light or no lighting, all personal with no need to explain science or logic. Besides, what a good heatsink will do is to get the heat out into the case, hence good air ventilation and steay air flow is the key; not air tubulence. And I did not answer the question yet. Check out Lian Li, Kingwin, Cooler Master, Super Flower, you will never regret and they keep high resale value. It gives pure enough power, no problems there, but the fans kinda suck. If you need maximum cooling, find a cooler PS than the TT. rein Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 well I grabbed the antec 3700 amb and with a thermal take 120mm fan and im putting it together right now. Every time I add a component i get more and more happy with my purchase. This thing is sweet and much more open to airflow and the paintjob is sweeeet . Thanks for everybodys input. I figure ill see how the 350w psu does before upgrading since I dont like to add stuff I dont need and my computer is quite basic. tho a sound card might be a good idea... Check out the lastest from tomshardware.com None made in the good USA, all made in China.... Look for one that is ISO9000 certified. I assumed that even tho its value crap that it should still be ok for my oc, since my pc3200 hundred runs at 200mhz fsb ddr and my cpu is at 200mhz. If its rated for 200fsb shouldn't it be ok?
