B00cup Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 I'm trying to keep the color of my rig uniform and was wondering if it were possible to mod the V8 cpu cooler by replacing the red led fan with a blue led fan? Has anyone tried to mod it already? If anyone has I would appreciate any bit of info on how to, if I can, what fan to replace it with, etc. Thanks! Waco Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 As long as you make sure you get a fan with roughly the same static pressure and CFM you'll be okay.
paulktreg Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Are the LED's actually part of the fan? I get the impression from one or two reviews they might just be below that top casing? Can you take out the fan and have a look, it may not be too diificult to change the LED's if you have a soldering iron and a steady hand. Can you take the top cover of the fan, doesn't look too difficult, and post a photograph?
B00cup Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) I haven't actually purchased one yet, but still plan on doing so. The leds should be attached to the fan. I just found a great modding video for it that covers just about what I need. The only thing I still want to know is what kind of fan to replace it with? Miek Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) Why not just get the V6? You can change the color on the fly between red, green, and blue. Plus, it's a beastly cooler. Product page: http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6668 Review (temps): http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cooler_master_v6gt/4.htm Did you say you haven't purchased a fan or the V8? Because if you've already purchased a V8, you can disregard my suggestion. Edited August 8, 2010 by Miek
paulktreg Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Found this one that's recommended for the V8. Hope it helps?
B00cup Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Thanks for the suggestion! No I haven't purchased either, the V6 is very good though. The only thing is the price. I can get the V8 for around $59.99 with a $10 rebate.

B00cup Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 (edited) I really want to share the mod that I found. I think that it looks really nice and I think that it would be a great mod for anyone else who is considering modding the V8. I'm not sure if it's okay to post youtube videos on here? Can someone clarify for me? I didn't see anything against it in the rules but I just want to double check. I've had forums before outlaw it for some reason Edited August 8, 2010 by B00cup

B00cup Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) I'm not sure If I can agree with those of you who are saying the V6 is better. Even the reviews on this site show that the V8 has the cooler temperatures... V8: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cm_v8/4.htm V6: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/cooler_master_v6gt/4.htm I guess there would need to be an actual side by side comparison to get the most accurate temperature differences, but still.
