Battery Backup

Recommended Posts

Well apparently my battery backup isn't working, the power flickered and my computer lost power, so it's time to get a new one. So I have a question, do you use a battery backup? if so, what kind do you have?

I'm going to have to get a pretty big one. I have dual 19" widescreen monitors for my pc and and iMac.

I do not, but my parents have one for their computer. Their UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) is about 5 years old but still holds a charge for 10 minutes...

I'd suggest Office Depot or one of the related stores to go look (maybe Comp USA if you live near one.)

I have a bunch. I only use APC since that is what I have found to work well and their warranty is very good.

The smallest unit I have is 900 the biggest units I have are 2 1500's.

You don't need a battery backup for both monitors. I assume you already have some sort of surge suppressor. Only plug one monitor into the battery backup, the other into the suppressor strip. To me a battery backup exists to power your system long enough to save important work, and chances are you don't need a second monitor to save something.

I had two Belkin units die one right after the other. They would actually shut down on me. The battery had been replaced once before. I ended up having to drive down to Office Max and get the two replacement units. I bought an APC Back-UPS ES 350 for my cable modem and routers and an APC Back UPS NS 1250 for my main system. They seem to be workig just fine after the year or so that I have owned them.
