If I recall correctly, the GTX 465 is just a 470 with the wrong BIOS. The first 465's that hit the market were actually 470s with the 465 bios installed on accident (this was fixed by a bios flash.) So I'm sure you could easily flash it from a 465 to a 470, as long as the card itself can handle it.
ccokeman Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Haha. Comics, the both of you. But bump for the thread. And interested in the cooler if it gets parted....just say'n. I read that one site tried to flash a total of 12 and ended up with 8 bricked cards......

Id be intrested to see if anyone here has done it though and what the benches are like. Edited July 25, 2010 by punkishbloke
Locutus Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Haha oh wow. I had no idea that anything had gone awry for anyone in the past with this. I was just stating what I had heard. This is why it's a good thing to have a large community, some of us are idiots and the rest put us in our place. XD

Though I'd be intrigued to try this
Locutus Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Wait, I have a question. How is this possible though, since the 465 is 256bit not 320?

The early cards may have been able to do it based on the amount of memory modules on the PCB but on a new card just I would not do it! ir_cow Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 not to mention that tutorial said you had to clear the eeprom which can be bad news if it goes wrong. i'm with cookeman on this one, unless you got the 1st round of 465s and can verify the he PCB don't try it or you going to had a big paper weight. Be very careful and make sure you save your old bios and have a pci video card so you don't have to do a blind flash. While we are on the subject you need to count your memory chips if you have 10 then you do have a 465 that can be flashed to a 470. 10=320bit 8=256bit BTW. I have read about the PNY cards almost all have 10 mem chips. I am getting a Msi 465 tomorrow from Newegg I do not think it was a bad deal for 203.99 + a $20 rebate+just cause2 + metro 2033+ Nivida store choice 1 of three games Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter or Dark Void. I will be counting the memory chips. Also ASUS has a program that will safely unlock the shaders to a 470 if you are uncomfortable with bios flashing. Look for 465_Unlock.zip or 465Upgrade http://www.thinq.co.uk/2010/6/7/rumour-asus-app-turns-geforce-gtx-465-470 http://www.gnd-tech.com/main/content.php/238-ASUS-GTX-465-SoftMod http://downloads.guru3d.com/ASUS-GTX-465-to-470-unlocker-download-2561.html

I was just kidding , unless I was sure I had an unlockable original I wouldnt do it. not to mention that tutorial said you had to clear the eeprom which can be bad news if it goes wrong. i'm with cookeman on this one, unless you got the 1st round of 465s and can verify the he PCB don't try it or you going to had a big paper weight.
