c0ld Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 I thought instead of just seeing what's for sale I'de ask the pros. I did a tiny bit of looking around and the best I found was PC4400 at 3-4-4-8(timings arn't that great <_<) Also ran accross something odd, 2x1GB Kingston PC3200 ValueRAM for $919?? Here it is. Eva_Unit_0 Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Heh, you're right that the timings on the pc4400 isn't that great. That's because we've sort of hit a cap in terms of memory performance, so the only way to really make ram run faster (and pc4400 is REALLY high clock speed) is to relax the timings. I wouldn't be suprised if those 4400 sticks were really just some low-latency pc3200 running at really loose timings. I can't wait for ddr2 to come out for system ram. On the other hand, that's what we said about the geforce fx5800 ultra, too... Anyway, that mushkin in your sig is pretty much the best ram available. c0ld Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Heh. The PC3200 loose timing theory wouldn't surprise me either.
Paranoid Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 The $919 price is correct. 1GB modules are very expensive, even ValueRAM. Edit: The MSRP on that 2GB kit is $1143
Nuclear Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Stick with the Mushkin you've got.
FanATIc205 Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 yeah if you have the lvl2 3500 there is no better. ive seen a lot of 865/875 mobo owners ditch there loose timed 4000 stuff for the mushkin lvl2 and they seemed to really like the low latencys with a divider than the 4000 with 1:
smithy Posted January 24, 2004 Posted January 24, 2004 Keep those Mushkins!! That's 2gigs of ram- very expensive- Unless your building a bridge or Doing heavy animation- no purpose in getting something that big-especially with at CAS 3.
