slick2500 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hey seriously guys. We need to be nicer to the new people, even if they aren't very tech savy.
MrAlex Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Sarcasm aside Here are the websites you can download it: http://www.ubuntu.com/ http://www2.mandriva.com/ http://fedoraproject.org Linux comes in different distributions, called distros, and to start off, go with Ubuntu as it is probably the most user friendly. Here is a guide for beginners about Linux: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/the_beginners_guide_linux_part_1_finding_right_distribution Good Luck
SMeeD Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 This has to be a troll. Just typing lynux into google will redirect you to "linux"
hierovision Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 http://lmgtfy.com/?q=linux I second the Ubuntu suggestion. I've heard Fedora is equally awesome.
Guest_Jim_* Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I've used Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu and Fedora and prefer Ubuntu of all those. Although, Fedora found the digitizing pen drivers immediately for my HP Tablet, but the installer system is so screwy, especially compared to Ubuntu. Definitely for starting off in Linux, use Ubuntu, then you can explore others once you're comfortable with that.
paulktreg Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 A sensible answer! A new guy hearing the word Linux could quite easily be confused by all the different versions available. At least give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
slayer9019 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Like as posted by everyone else start with something like Ubuntu. After you start to get the hang of it, try something like Arch (Arch Homepage) they even have a beginners guide so it can walk you through the educational installation process.
