More Distributed Computing Projects.

I was reading "How Computers Work Part 2" and they had Folding, along with SETI in there but they also had a couple other cool programs.

Internet Movie Project

IMP

At press time, this project was still in beta testing. Eventually, though, this project hopes to create a movie. Users' PCs can render frames for the computer-generated graphics movie.

United Devices

UD.com

United Devices conducts cancer and diabetes research. What it is most known for, though, is the Anthrax Research Project. In just 24 days in 2002, client PCs helped United Devices test more than 3 billion molecules, leading to 300,000 potential cures for anthrax.

GIMPS (Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search)

GIMPS

At press time, the largest known prime number is 2^13,466,917-1. The GIMPS volunteer whose computer locates the first 10 million digit prime number will win $100,000.

Any chance on including some of these for the OCC team? I haven't tried them yet so I don't know if they are any good.

I know, Folding@Home is a great program but when I saw that $100,000 reward on the GIMPS project... I don't know about you guys but I could use $100,000! Also for the IMP, I think it would be cool to see computers make their own movie if thats how I understand how it works.

bah that ones kind of funny. But I don't see how it goes to any real use. I'd prefer to do something like GIMP where I can win $100,000. :) Or UD where I can help to cure cancer.

it doesn't serve any use per se, but i figure it with all the time people (me) spend in front of computers, it might be cool have something to show for it. and it doesn't interfere with fah at all, so people don't have to choose between the two.

if more people are interested and its cool with LP we should start a team.

I'll talk to LP about getting involved with the keycount.
