Capo Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 At present, I have a 20GB ATA100 hard drive. It is now most definitely time to upgrade and get a new hard drive, as that I am completely out of room! I would like to purchase a 100 to 120 GB ATA 133 Hard drive to go with my ASUS A7n8x DLX 2.0 MB. Now, what brands would you suggest? Also, where should I purchase it from? I would like to use no more than 100 dollars or so (if that's possible). I've looked around on ebay, but most deals turn out to be the same price as if you're buying from a company, at least so it seems. Anyways, what do you all suggest? Paranoid Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi are all good. Here is a 120GB Maxtor for $96 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....y=BROWSE&depa=1 Here is a 120GB Western Digital for $92.50 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....y=BROWSE&depa=1 Here is a 120GB Seagate for $100 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....y=BROWSE&depa=1 Here is a 120GB Hitachi for $93 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....y=BROWSE&depa=
Ghost2520 Posted January 20, 2004 Posted January 20, 2004 Go for a Maxtor. I have had a Seagate, Western Digital and a Maxtor and the Maxtor is by far the most user friendly as far as setup goes. Seagate uses a different sizing scale. I only got 30 gigs out of my 40 gig Seagate, Maxtor seems to be exactly as they say on their box. If you have a Frys near you look in the paper and you can often find a Maxtor 100 gig for under 100 dollars.

Mr_Yuck Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Go with anything, I would go with the cheapest, Office stores have them cheap a lot. Officemax: 80GB WD, $20, Office Depot: 120GB cant remember brand: $40, 160GB WD at compusa: $60. All these are rebate deals. I believe that they all have 8mb cache. Just check the office store ads. I think one of the main hard drive problems is that people dont cool them enough, or they drop em. I wouldnt say that there is a "best" brand out there, though seagate drives are typically quieter than others.

The BURST rate your talking about is faster, but really not even worth the extra money you spend on it. Yes the little cables do help air flow, which is why companies make rounded IDE cables...
