However, despite that, I didn't go overboard because I don't want to get more than I'd really need. My budget now is $2000 (give or take $100) Canadian in case anyone was wondering. Here's a list of parts I've chosen: Cooler Master Storm Sniper Some LGA1156 board. Please recommend one (preferably with Realtek based audio) Intel Core i5-750 @ 2.66GHz Noctua NH-U12P SE2 evga GTX470 Corsair HX750 750w modular PSU 2GB of...? (I am using 2GB as a starting point. I can add more later on. If I do so, I'll probably add a substantial amount. Maybe even 8GB) Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB HDD (May change to Samsung Spinpoint F3) LG 24x CD/DVD driver/burner Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit D-Link dwa-140 usb wireless adapter I'll post the final price via Newegg later on. Why the NH-U12P over the NH-D14? I like the price on the MSI X58 Pro-E. Have you read good things about it? I'm currently looking at the Asus P6X58D-E, which is discounted to $209.99 U.S. right now. Miek Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 The D14 is more extreme than I'd need. The NH-U12P would still allow for a nice overclock too. Yes, I've read good things about the MSI X58 Pro-E. And I've always known Western Digital to make good products. However, the Spinpoint F3 does have good reviews as well. How is it vs. the Caviar Black? - I noticed that one of the Caviar Blacks has a 64mb cache. Would that be necessary or even beneficial? EDIT: The Spinpoint F3 is looking more and more enticing. Chuckles Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I'm going off of the reviews as well. Seems like the F3 benchmarks faster, has a really great rep, and is slightly cheaper. I put a wireless adaptor in one of my older systems and has been working fine for over 6months.. (win7x64) will try to check what brand/model it is when I get home (if I remember, just installed a i7-980x in my main system last night and it's currently setting at stock settings so I may get distracted). Miek Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Hmm... If I went X58/i7 930... How long do you think that would last in terms of being "future proof?" Also... I know that on the i7 930 the speed of it varies... but does the voltage also vary accordingly? And... I'm honestly considering going with an AMD quad because while I may be able to afford the i7, it may well be wasted cash if I'm not going to be able to fully utilize it.
